So basically we don't get to hear the other side of the story, and we're asked to take this story at face value.

A little research goes a long way.. I trust you don't expect me to do it all for you.

Thousands of others made the effort.

"Thousands of others" is not the same as the "other side"

I didn't know the Norwegian government was retarded. I can only hope that there is some real valid reason (like neglect) why the children were taken away from their parents.

Norway is trapped in the liberal-left social engineering while implementing one of the brutal Nazi methods of its WWII past. Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Lithuania, India, Romania have a problem with Norway handling the issue with Barnevernet, arrogantly responding to official diplomatic notes or ignoring them all together. Barnevernet became a major liability for Norwegian reputation on world stage. Czech Republic is proposing breaking up diplomatic relationship with Norway. Hungary was considering the same and it had 18 months long dispute with it. Poland solved a problem with Barnevernet that it sent armed commando in disguise to Norway and removed its children citizens separated from their parents. There are dozens lawsuits against Norway in European courts and Norway is the only country in Europe that never signed charter protecting the rights of children.

From multiple sources what I have read, Barnevernet is a big business, well funded organization without any oversight. Within next several weeks, there will be demonstrations in front of Norwegian embassies all over the world, but Norwegian population will be totally unaware of them like it was last year. What is protecting this country is its NATO membership. Otherwise, it will be one the most isolated, ostracized country on the Continent.

    Hi there kaik,

It seems the case may have something to do with corporal punishment. That could explain Barnevernet heavy handedness, but it doesn't justify them taking away all 5 children though. Couldn't they just have sent the parents on a parenting course? But your point is that "Barnevernet is a big business, well funded organization without any oversight." This sort of reminds me of whats happening in the USA with the private prison system. The fact is businesses need customers, and if you have an oversupply of a product (prisons) you need to generate a demand (prisoners) to stay in business.

Well is child welfare all that important to Norwegians? I wonder. Anders Breivik received a sentence of 21 years (which means he could be out in 10) for killing 76 people. Of those 60+ were children whose physical and emotional growth have been permanently stinted. At one point I believe Breivik complained that he only had a Sony Playstation 2 in his cell and could not play the latest titles.

the issue of inbreeding (the highest incidence among of all European population)

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear - please don't fall victim to such bullshit. What the Lithuanian, Estonian and other front persons are saying is just good plain old fashioned bullshit.

For your information, Norway has a right-wing government, and during WWII was occupied by Germany like so many other countries in Europe, and thus have no more a WWII "past" than any other country, unlike Germany/Austria/Hungary/Roumania/Slovakia which were allies.

Sorry to disappoint you, that is so utterly wrong.

Again sorry to disappoint you, these are shown in the television news programs and newspaper columns whenever they take place - whenever 10 or 20 misled persons show up in front of an embassy.

Yeah I get that.. but my point was that often people expect to be spoon fed everything on a platter and have all their research done for them.

    'Other side' meaning what exactly?

TheOldHippie....You posted three responses like angry géront, but otherwise you had nothing to say. It is due your advanced retardation as a result of past LSD use? How conveniently you did not mention Poland in anti-Nazi coalition because it does not fit your agenda defending a country known for Quisling! You can use any search engine and find out, which news agency mentioned inbreeding in Norway first. This information appears in peer journals as far as 1891. All news sites from UK to Russia had published this information and various official governments in half dozen EU member countries dealt with it when it came to association with Barnevernet. It would also not hurt to verify that Norway did not sing 1996 Hague Convention on Parental Responsibility and Protection of Children. You are free to post whatever you feel to fit your agenda and opinion; but at the end, they are just opinions from old fool.

That's interesting, kaik. Canadians have had quite a few cases of children being 'kept' in (mostly) Arab countries by one parent, while the other is left behind in Canada, fighting for rights to see/communicate with their children. I see that the Toronto Star had an article about this very issue in Norway, in August of this year.

It isn't all that surprising, considering Norway's traditional 'isolationist' culture. I've always been interested in Scandinavia, and Iceland, so have read about this in my literary journeys.

Here's a link to the Star article.

Saintbertholdt , I follow the case of Eva Michalkova for two years regarding kidnapping of two Czech nationals by Barnevernet, and this case is one the most medially reported there. There is also documentary which you can google out on her. It went as far as one NATO and EU member country is considering to break up the diplomatic relationship with Norway and expel its lying ambassador. Poland, Romania, Hungary, Lithuania were in some point were considering to put diplomatic pressure on Norway as well due exactly the same problem. Hungary had 18 months long diplomatic dispute with Norway. Contrary to géront's opinion of OldHippie, demonstration in Prague last year attracted between 500 and 1000 people. Various people from the president of the country to hockey players to diplomats and public figures got involved in the case. Not for nothing, Norway refused to sign 1996 convention, and ignores European countries, when it comes to deal with their nationals. Kidnapping foreign nationals is totally unacceptable for any country, but Norway has done exactly this to Eva Michalkova.
