How do I quote on this site?

I use Crome if that helps.

It's not getting the yellow quote that's hard it's getting out of it so you can continue your own thoughts. You need to leave at least one word below the quote.

    Here's the quote:

By george I thought I had it ,how do you then get out of the yellow ?

A Word.......any word. IT, The, any word will do even XX. I enter a random word before I copy the quote. I place the quote over that word, I highlight the quote THEN click on the quote box. That word serves as an exit from the yellow quote.

In my experience if you don't set a 'place saver' a black and white word below the area you intend to paste in the Quote then click the quote bar it just stays in that mode no matter what you write it just reproduces everything you add into the yellow quote block.....its's the gift that keeps on giving....not. There may be another way to do this.

Now without my place saver here is what happens:

By george I thought I had it ,how do you then get out of the yellow ?

No place saver...... I am stuck in the yellow box forever,

Pressing Enter doesn't get me out.

    I am here.....help!

Every time I've asked this in an existing thread, I've never gotten an answer, so forgive me for starting a new thread in order to ask again. I simply cannot figure out how to quote someone with the standard yellow box. I can copy/paste the quote, sure, but nothing I do makes it appear in a yellow box like everyone else.

I like to highlight the name of the poster I am quoting too and include it in the yellow box. It helps if people want to keep a conversation straight as sometimes things can move very fast.

I usually remove the time of the post over on the right across from the poster name just because.....but you dont have to.

Well, this is how I show the quotations of other posters since, I, too, can't do even the simplest procedure:

"Every time I've asked this in an existing thread, I've never gotten an answer, so forgive me for starting a new thread in order to ask again. I simply cannot figure out how to quote someone with the standard yellow box." -- Nevuela

"You have got me I dont know how to do it either ,It took me donkeys ages to do what I did here ?LOL" -- smiddy

The info cited below is helpful if you are writing a paper and need to quote outside sources; this is above and beyond what we need here when making a casual reference to what a fellow poster has written:

I add 3 blank lines (hit Enter 3 times) into the 'Have your say' box, before inserting a quote.

After highlighting and copying the text you want to quote, place the cursor on the first blank line, then click the Quote button to insert a yellow box so as to paste the copied text into the yellow box.

When you want to add your own comments below the yellow quote box, place the cursor onto one of the other blank lines you had already first added. If you added the quote box to the first blank line, the other 2 blank lines will remain below the yellow quote box.

While we are trouble shooting. I cannot get the dates for when things are posted, on both my Samsung phone and iPad. I could up until a couple weeks back.

Likely for the same period Simon has been performing updates and revisions to the site. Poster's join dates are no longer showing for me. Whether that is a permanent change has yet to be indicated.

I already explained that I tried the quote button, guys. Next time please read a post all the way through before answering it. Those of you who mentioned Firefox are probably right. I'm on IE, so that must be the problem. Thanks for clearing that up for me. :)
