I've seen this more than once.
A well-off elde, steps down temporarily while his dfd son "is kicked out of the house".
This is when the elder rents him an apartment, pays all of his bills, provides a car, and a credit card. Then, he get's back on the elder list. "Hey, he's not under MY roof."
Meanwhile poor elders keep their destitute dfd son in their house, and do not serve as elders for several years.
Yeah, I have seen it so many time in my years! I even knew a CO that was paying his really rotten son's way.
Funny, how it's so often the eldubs kids are the worst, but protected by the old boy's club!!!!

i left the cult in my 20's..but my dub dad and mum never shunned me. i lived in sin for a while--smoked and swore. made no difference. my parents had a close natural bond with me. blood being thicker than water. my dad was an elder for many years during that time. we just never talked about his religion.
