Slidin fast - "...When it was a novelty, there were many inane and excited greetings to every on who appeared. it was just awful. Now, nobody appears until the last minute, those who arrive early just sit in bored silence... I think, if and when this is all over, it will not be missed by anyone..."

    Except...

...some of us have long suspected that the transition of the WTS into a predominantly internet-based religion was already in the cards, for a whole lot of reasons.

The Covid crisis has facilitated said transition in a way that must seem (to the WT leadership, at least) almost heaven-sent.

My brother was counseled for drinking a glass of milk on a zoom meeting. In the comfort of his own home. I told him to turn video off. Next will be to turn the whole thing off.

ZOOM meetings and videos from the "command center" are perfect for WT. "Morning Worship" straight from Bethel? Who could hope for a faster, better, more economical method to brainwash.

We thought "5 meetings a week" were bad, now it's 24/7.

I watched a funeral/ memorial and there were WT "paradise videos" shown even there.

Yeah, I gotta say, I did not expect the rank-and-file to get even cultier.

I figured it’d be the opposite.

    Maybe it’s just the loyalists.

There is an us/them mentality. Those who follow direction and have a camera in their living room and those who prefer no invasion of privacy. The divide is real.

    Wow.

So the WTS is becoming even more Big-Brothery then it already was.

    Just as well, maybe.

The alienation can’t help but further incline the fakers, faders, and face-sitters to bugger off.

We’ve had the zoom for a solid 9 months now. I’ve noticed more and more are just zooming out as time goes on. Mrs Hoser is good at multitasking and does the laundry during the meeting. That wouldn’t fly if the camera was on and the mic not muted.

My wife pays less attention to the Zoom meeting than she did at the KH. Also, she will have some alcohol before the meeting sometimes and even take her dinner into the room she uses for the zoom calls. she is much more relaxed about meetings than she was and dreads going back to KH.

My conscience told me to leave the mic off. Good thing, since I was beating off part of the time.

After reading the comments above, I'm going to have some booze or coffee if and when I decide to turn the video on.

    WATON:

Earlier on in 2020 when I read about Zoom meetings for JWs, I felt this was an invasion of privacy.

At least when a person attended the hall, when they went home and closed their door they were in privacy. With Zoom they can see right into your home and even make comments on things you have hanging on YOUR walls. (I would be livid if somebody did this.)..Plus, a person is supposed to be dressed up just to be in their own house!! Also, there is an assumption that because people are mostly home because of Covid that you should always be available for a Zoom meeting or conference. In other words, a person can’t hide.

I would hope that after all these months and now that we are into the New Year, that these intrusive Zoom meetings have lost their charm and more JWs are switching off the camera. That way busybodies can’t see into people’s homes or make criticisms about the decor, people’s dress or whatever!
