It's very similar, in that I think they both feel that it's better to go down fighting for that miniscule chance that things will work out, even though it's almost certain that they will go down with an utterly busted legacy. And if Johnson really believes that he'll make it through this and still be PM in 2030, then he's even more delusional than Evans.
As for Evans branching out, I don't think that will work well for him. He knows the WT organization and its past and history and belief systems from being in the organization for many years. All he knows about Mormons or Scientologists is whatever he reads or watches from others. He can't really do it justice, and his own indiscretions will continue to follow him wherever he goes if he decides to continue to pursue "professional activism." It's simple: he ruined his reputation. He can try to run from it, but that won't work. And he's not going to change his personality, which means he's going to anger people and they will make every effort to continue to rub his nose in his own personal messes. I think he's done, he just doesn't realize it yet.
