When I was having study, an elder told me this story about how witnesses witnessed to the governments as well. And he told me this story about JW's preaching about the fall of all false religion., to the US government (?) and how this was met with surprise, cuz the US (could also have been the UN) had these plans about dealing with religions all along. Now, back then I was young, stupid, ignorant and gullible, and didn't question this. Today it just popped back into my mind, and I am overly curious if anyone heard a similar story like this. I am wondering where the heck this elder got this *information* Anyone? - And the world shall tremble in the wake of the Blue Bubblegum

Hi Viv I've missed you, where ya been?

The only time I can think of is when the nit wits were put in prison for printing all kinds of stupid shit in the Finished Mystery which condemned not only all other religions but also the US govt.

They do often talk about how they witness to various statesman and leaders but I've never heard of the account you mention.

They are not turning against religion... they are protecting it.

By making sure the government does not make an establishment of religion, they are guaranteeing that everyone will have the right to free exercise of religion. This way you don’t have to worry about a government official imposing a giving faith on you or telling you what you can and cannot believe.

This is good for religion… and bad for those who want to control religion through the courts or legislation.

The JWs may rant and rave saying "See! This is it!" but then nothing will happen... AGAIN.

Shotgun, you missed me? I am having a cold, which has been making me sleep 24/7

The story popped into my mind yesterday. I'm pretty sure he did not mean the witnesses being thrown in jail early 20th century. But I can't remember what exactly he meant. Mind you, I don't believe it, it's just one of those things that can keep your mind occupied all the time. Like a melody stuck into your mind and you try desperately to remember the lyrics...like that.

Maybe I'll be crazy enough and knock on his door one of these day and pretend to be wanting to come back and ask him. LOL, that would be hilarious.

Viv: I remember something being spoken of over here in Cana-DUH!

Yeah, this was way back in 1982.

I was at a book study, and this one sister....of course, an elder's wife, said something about some UN folks and their visit (to Gaspe region of Quebec, Canada) about their plan to eliminate religion on planet Earth.

    Not a bad idea.

But, yeah, I really thought, by that rumour (coz as a JW, you'll take things verbatim) I really thought that the WTS/JWs had the truth.

    Another fabricated story.

I could have been over in the Nederlands hanging out with you Viv, enjoying myself, rather than annoying countless hundreds/thousands of Canadians for nearly 7 years.

Yeah, I fell for it too, I'm afraid.

    BUT...not anymore.

I'm in Western Canada and heard the same story as Razorblade. It was more recent (1998-99???). Apparently, some witnesses were talking to a UN Representative and told him of the bible's prophecy of the fall of false religion. The UN Representative was a little shocked, and told them that he couldn't say anything (big secret ) BUT that whatever "witnessing work they needed to do, they (the organization) better finish up quickly".

Somewhat ominous. Methinks it is a unique JW Urban Legend.

At the time though - I was excited (yet in the far back places of my mind, somewhat skeptical).

Yep, I heard the same type of thing. There also are alligators living in the sewers of New York, you know.

This is such a prominent legend amongst the Dubs that it even impinged upon the shores of Africa during my troubled Dub teenagedom. Yes indeedy! Even I've heard that one, from the mouth of an Elderette as it happens.

    What a load of poppycock!

You cannot have humans without a significant fraction of those humans being religious. It's a common fact of all human societies, and it's been the downfall of many that tried to stamp it out.

The idea of the UN stamping out religion is tantamount to the UN providing free lollypops to every dignitary at the door of their conference room when the leaders of the world gather for a summit, really! It's one thing I seriously don't lose any sleep over...

Ahhh, good! So I am not the only one that has been told the story. It has never been written in a watchtower or other publication, right? I can just put this next to the demonized smurfs, right?

*Just realises what a bad apostate she is, by not having a smurf actually sitting on top of my computer... I need to remedy that *
