I've come to suspect that religion evolved - like many other aspects of human behavior - as a means of limiting the sexual opportunities of lower-ranked tribal members and increasing the sexual opportunities of higher-ranked ones.

Is it any wonder, then, that hard-core (no pun intended) religionists are so preoccupied with other tribe-members' sex lives?

It is all about control. They are not getting any and they do not want you to have any OR they are having sex with every person that walks by them and they feel dirty for what they are doing so they don't want any one else to have it. See it is all about control. LOL. Still Totally ADD

Why they so obsessed? - because they're in a religion that says they can't masturbate, view porn or have extra-marital sex; they must marry to have sex.

If they do anything else than have sex in marriage, God might destroy them at the Big A.

I think marriage is a good institution but it f**ks people up - particularly men, it seems - when marriage is forced upon people.

I'm not so sure that religion in general is overly concerned with sex. The C of E on the whole seem pretty relaxed about it, although a bit exercised on the subject of openly practising gay clergy. However religious cults like JWs are obsessed with a pharisaical sense of precisely enforcing their own vision of what they want you to do in bed and with whom and how.

If cult leaders control your most private activities then they surely can control the rest of your life.

Could it be that religions back there were more obsessed with fertility, crops and people and used their sexual parts in their worship? Life spans were short, no adolescent time to be carefree, everyone had to pull their weight.

Females married young, had no choice, father chose

Males married who parents chose and lived with mom and dad, did not start their own household.

People had to have an heir to pass on their property, to have someone to look after the mother and siblings.

Slavery was allowed under the law; with the illusion if the master were kind it was not slavery.

religion is kind of an ornament, so is sex. The varied uses of Ws & Vs., seen as a heavenly gift, was a natural to make it a subject of religious control by all.
