HTTPS (SSL security) Now Available

I've setup an SSL certificate so you can now use HTTPS to browse the site. This creates an encrypted connection between your browser and the server which is more secure and prevents URLs visited from being shown in router logs, content can't be eavesdropped etc...

There are also some performance benefits but they won't kick in until I make some more changes.

Consider it experimental for now but at some point it will likely automatically redirect you to the secure version of a page.

You can try it by adding 's' to the http part of any address or just goto the home page and browse from there (some mixed content means you may not get the fully green https status in your browser just yet though).

Let me know if you have any issues using the site.

Well, yeah . . . it works, sort of.

The main page, is encrypted.

When clicking on any of the subpages, such as Forum, Topics, etc., it reverts back to an unsecured environment (using Opera v36).

Most links should be relative and keep you on the same protocol but there may be some that are absolute and use http

Once everything is working OK I can fix those and the redirect from http to https will keep things right.

Neat blue dog. When you use a wifi provided by a router at a home, place of business, or Kh, that router has some access to your computer. It depends on how tech savvy the KH people in charge of that wifi are as to whether your own browsing can be seen. They would have to purposely look at the connections and dig deeper.

Using a cellular data plan for browsing at the KH, you can get around that

Not quite, more that because you are connecting through the router, it has access to look at the traffic unless it is encrypted. So without HTTPS/SSL it's possible to see the address of sites being visited, search query terms and so on, with it all these things are hidden.
