(sorry hit the wrong button)
Has anybody seen this film?
A powerful drama about three Aboriginal girls in the 1930's Australia. Taken from their families, they try to return home by hiking across the Outback. A true story.
Very emotional thermatic material and spiritual. The material of it left people in the theatre speechless. Nobody rushed out in a hurry either.
The Aboriginal children are taken away by the government (White Men) to try to change the race to white.
It's a film that has been hanging with me for days. It touches my roots as a Finnish Saami and my childrens Native American culture.
And you see this kind of mentality all over the world. And try to fit people in a norm of whatever. And jw's are right in there along with other religions.
And it makes me angry. I think its a must see film !!
Like to hear from others and their response to the film.

I am sitting in a coffee shop with an independent video rental store in the back. I'll go rent it right away, watch it this afternoon, and let you know.

Good movie, terrible story... and the white government in Australia was still taking away aborigine children from their families up until... ? I am not sure.... the 1970s? It is heart-breaking to imagine what the mother and the child must go through when they're separated like that.

G'day Crow,
I'm confused over this:
It touches my roots as a Finnish Saami and my childrens Native American culture.
Both Saami and Native American??? This sounds like an interesting story.
BTW Mrs Ozzie and I have visited with the Saami people, complete with teepee like dwellings, and eaten reindeer with them. It's fascinating!
Anyway, we've seen the "Rabbit Proof Fence". It's a 'must see'. Moving and powerful...and it's Australian!
Cheers, Ozzie

I haven't as yet seen the moofie......... But I've seen shitloads of background info about it.. It is a powerful story about the Aus gumbmint policy
of taking black kids from their fambilies and "placing" them with white families.......a policy that didn't work.
We are still trying to sort it out. and as soon as the Aus gumbermint gets it head out of it's arse....... the reconcilliation will get moving.
my 2 cents ( 1.25c US) worth

It was heartbreaking to watch this film.
And to listen to the voices of the survivors of the stolen generations...I think what is said will move you beyond words.
Accompanied by a beautiful sound-track.

Several months ago I posted how much I enjoyed (for lack of a better term) this movie.
I happened across it one day when it first came out on DVD. I rented it even though I had never heard of it. Then, coincidentally, my neighborhood theater showed it on the "big" screen. I went and saw it again with some friends that never saw it before. Then, I went out and bought it and I now own a copy.
By the way, on the previous thread, I recall that some Aussies didn't think this movie was true in its depiction.
