Prayers in Restaurants....

I don't like praying for food either. My wife and sister-in-law sometimes ask me to give a prayer at meals. Sometimes I do and at other times I don't.

We were out at a resturant, my wife was paying for the meal and someone ask me to give thanks. I said thank you Pat for this meal, I really appreciate it. They didn't think it was very funny, but I was just giving my view of who was providing the food. I think it is for show only, you can thank God silently if you wish. I feel like a hypocrite if I don't really believe God provided the meal. How many meals would you get if someone didn't work for them. If God is providing them why doesn't any of the starving children get them?

Ranks right up there with witnessing on xmas day. A pretentious show of self-righteousness.

    cheeses - 2, 4, 6, 8 - bog in - don't wait.

My dad has said the same stumbling prayer, word for word, since a as early as I can rememeber (I'm an old 44 today)

Whenever he tries to change it for a special occasion, he trips over and starts repeating the same lines. He would not

try to do it in public. Some of those pompous gits confuse a prayer with a sermon, for the non believers that may be within earshot.

Old smack (smells like old spice)

I never prayed before meals. Neither did my mother. But when we were at family events, and especially if our non jw relatives were there my mom made a big deal about getting my bil to pray. It was always so dumb. My parent support worker (someone to talk to about my son) prayers silently in resturants all the time. We went to burger king to just for a snack, and she had to pray before she ate her apple pie. I always feel funny, because ususally we are having a conversation and then she has to pause and bow her head. Does any remember going to jw picnics and things and the long prayers they would give, it was always so hard to keep my oldest son away from the food. We would stand there and wait impatiently for the prayer to get over, while the flies were having fun on the food. Pam

kindly older brother just stands up and says a prayer quite loudly

omg... talk about praying just for show! I would have been so embarrassed even as a dub. Sometimes we prayed at a restaurant, but we always just said a quick and quiet prayer to ourselves in our heads.

    Say Viv,

Remember that time when we had cakes and shiraz? Can you imagine hearing a prayer there, let alone saying one!

    Cheers, Ozzie

Ozzie, lol! Yeah, the only way we could have been heard there.. was if we started doing some gospel-like singing to praise the lord
