Yesterday they started a three part series on Hasidic Jews living mostly in Brooklyn and New Jersey and how they take advantage of the system and at the same time rule with an iron hand for bidding the use of modern technology, smart phones, TV etc

If you think the Witnesses are bad, take a look at them. They ostracize you and kick your children out of their schools and treat you as Nonexistent ! The rabbis invade every part of the Hasdics life.

Israel is also experiencing a significant increase in Jewish religious extremism.

Some at the far end are anti-Zionist. Go figure!

Yes, i agree the control this group has over its people is OTT. It seems a bit sad and rather ironic that this sort of oppression of human beings that is perpetrated by a religion exists in the home of the "free."

Thanks. I'll see if I can get to watch it.

I know that there are much worse cults out there. However, that doesn't cancel out what the WT does to their people. It is and feels as bad.

I mention this not because you wrote something wrong, but because some people might use the now typical "what about..." thing as an excuse to minimize the bad negative influence that the WT has on people (to various degrees). Just because others are more obvious or more physically harmful, that doesn't mean that the being a JW is a breeze.

Scratchme— l read an article reporting on the experiences of a young Hasidic woman in the US.

    Unreal

To minimize physical contact ON THE WEDDING NIGHT the newlyweds made contact through a sheet with a hole in it.

The rabbi checks the woman’s undergarments to ascertain the woman’s periods. The married woman is to shave her head and wear a wig.

How true is it? I would have to read more. Being born in to these crazy religions!!!

    Pretty extreme.

As sparrowdown said— sad and rather ironic that this sort of oppression of human beings that is perpetrated by a religion exists in the home of the "free."

I’ve only seen Hasidic people in nyc though I know Orthodox Jews all over. Once went to a convention in nyc or nearby where the assembly was smack dab in the middle of a Hasidic neighborhood. I remember worrying that I was being taken to some JW next level compound (I wasn’t associating of my own desire) That I feared Jonestown then was my wake up call. No family was worth living with that kind of uneasiness.

I live in south-central Pennsylvania. The Amish and Old Order Mennonite have been like this since forever. Everyone thinks they're so nice and quaint. It's a total farce and BS. They are a total CULT, treat women as 2nd class citizens, work children as soon as they can walk, treat horse and other animals so inhumanely you'd think they're barbarians, only allow an 8th grade education, are total cheapskates, all the while demanding the very best and religious tax exemption, and use ex-communication and shunning as control mechanisms. Oh! And the sexual abuse in children is something like 7 out of 10. And I'm not even touching on the genetic deficiencies.

A good analogy might be the US, with its social programs and religious tax exemptions compared to my aunt with her 50 or 60 cats.

She's created a hell hole of misery for not only any sane person that sees her property, but for the cats themselves.

The worst thing about their situation is that they have their own police force. Imagine a husband (or wife) smacking each other around, and the police that respond are tribal, like what happens on Indian reservations. It's disgusting.
