That has not been my experience with COs.

We can proudly say, we have NEVER given a CO or his wife a green handshake. We are so glad we never did.

Many years ago, a young (20-something) superstar young-elder's wife summed up her career aspirations this way:

"We want to be a circuit overseer couple, so the friends will take care of us."

I agree.with that. I would have thought that it would be tantamount to simony and the thought never crossed my mind until I heard about it on this board.

Suavojr - there are many irritating, mind-blowing and downright cowardly things CO's have done over the decades. Occasionally they may not thank someone who has given them money.

Usually - probably mostly - they do.

Sweeping statements and over generalisations do not help.

Every CO I gave the green handshake to sent me a Thank You card a week or two later.

In all my 30 plus years as a witness I never knew this happened. Until I read it here. Few remaining illusions shattered. Here was me thinking they were in it to serve others!

Sorry for the generalization, but damn! I'm born in and have lived in two states and outside the US and have never come across a CO or DO who has said thank you for the gift. I guess it has been my experience and thought many were the same way.

Being a sister, I give money to the COW, and I always receive a thank you card.

The congregations that I've attended have been served by good, bad, and ugly circuit overseers. Since I never gave them any green handshakes, there was never a reason to thank me. However, since the CO controlled patronage, I did see those who did shake the CO's hand get positions in the congregation faster than those who didn't.

Don't know if the CO sent them a thank you note, but being rewarded with an elder's or MS's position would have been an acknowledgement of the gift received.
