Eurgh!
There's a principle in biology called Parallel Evolution. It's the independent evolution of similar traits, starting from a similar ancestral condition.
I think that fits here..

Interesting to see, if you follow the link, that at least they have a woman on the council which is more than you can say for the high control religion that we are all familiar with!
Quite worrying though, there is concern here in Australia about the same thing but it doesn't seem to have a whole lot of public comment at the moment. We are generally an apathetic bunch down under and until it pokes us in the eye not much will happen.

2 guys and a gal deciding a female Muslims fate ,well at least that`s better than 3 guys deciding the fate of a female Jehovah`s Witness fate .
At least they have the semblance of impartiality .
But haven`t the Catholics and the Protestants had their own laws and judgement`s ,consequences etc, apart from the secular law of the land for Centuries ? That they have imposed on society ?

These 'courts' have no more legal force in the UK than a JW judicial committee.
If Muslims want to submit to the misogynistic opinions other Muslim elders in civil matters that's up to them.

The fear mongering propaganda of the Far Right says the Muslims will impose Sharia Law on all of us as they become the majority of the population.
One word describes this argument, no,two ( I sound like Solomon), : Utter Bollocks.

Yes Smiddy and they are still imposing them on society. That's why Ireland has only just passed a law allowing abortion, fifty-one years after the UK because of the Catholic Church and why assisted dying is still illegal here.

The Muslim percentage of the UK population is about 4.5%.
Muslims are outbreeding non-Muslims. So, that 4.5% will grow as time goes on.
It will be interesting to see what will happen when that figure reaches 40% of the population.
Plus, the Sharia courts are currently affecting only Muslims (save for that incident in east London that saw Muslim patrols put up sharia stickers in the area and harass gay couples, people drinking alcohol, etc.). As the Muslim % grows, will the demand (currently only by a tiny, insignificant minority-within-a-minority) for Sharia to replace Western law grow louder and louder?
Furthermore, it would be useful to examine other countries that have seen a small Muslim minority grow and grow. Countries like Lebanon and Belgium (in recent times), and Turkey (in antiquity).
Egypt is made up of many millions of Muslims (90% of the population). Is the demand for Sharia popular in Egypt?

Sharia law is terrible. And so is the Noahide law that judaism wishes to impose on the world, or the Law of St Benedict that the cat lick church wishes they could bring back. I do not like any of those three groups of religious programs, or communism that they all lead to.
All three of these are homophobic (the death penalty). All denigrate women to the extreme, including face veils and segregation of the two genders. All three lead to denial and stupid hardship. I even think the Noahide law is worse--in the extreme, you cannot manipulate any type of energy without committing "idolatry". This includes evoking memories of a past event. There goes that favorite song you danced at the prom to, or that reminds you of happier times. Yup, that is "idolatry" to utilize music to bring back the atmosphere of a past event.
