    Rem:

    You mean your non-falsifiable hypothesis?

    That's the one

    Special K:

I just try to teach them openess to allow others to believe what they want to believe and to enjoy others like different flavours of ice cream

It sounds like they'll have a healthier upbringing than we did. Good for you

As a non-believer I am always amazed by how many people, after rejecting the Watchtower, continue to hold on to some of their irrational beliefs or even replace faith in the Watchtower with faith in another equally unlikely belief system.

Why not strain the "bathwater", then look at what's left? If you examine it closely enough, there's no way you can miss a "baby". If there's no baby, then all you're left with is a bathful of dirty water

GREAT POINT - often the first line a beliver will say is YOU WANTED TO DO BAD OR NOT BE HELD REPSONIBLE

and as soon as i read that i realize the person has no arguement, but instead is using a technique that many of us PERFECTED in wt- blame the person for being wicked or not doing enough

if you LOOKED HARD FOR GOD YOU COULD FIND HIM-

well if i had kids who were in the house and i had bars up at the doors and windows and the house caught on fire and i told them they just needed to LOOK HARD FOR THE KIDS , instead of telling them where they are or leaving them in an accessible place SINCE THIER VERY LIVES DEPENDED on finding the keys

most believers would call me and unfit parent- yet 'god' has left his kids in a burning house as it was and he is playing HIDE AND GO SEEK ME OUT- WHILE they dying and suffering

    you got to love

Well, I spent the first nine years believing in nothing bigger than myself and nothing that I couldn't get my mind around.

    Then some things happened.

Now I will go so far as to ackowledge the possiblity of a universal mind or force that we are all somehow part of. Not a seperate old man with a beard.

This solves several problems for me... it explains the things I needed to explain. It makes us bigger than ourselves, and it makes us simultaneously divine and mortal. It affirms our amazingness and holds us responsible to not keep our own light under a bushel - if we're as divine as the next person, what's our excuse for not being amazing?

And finally, it holds us capable and responsible for fixing our own problems, since there's no "person" watching us with the fire extinguisher at the ready.

Of course, I can't see it, can't prove it, and am only bringing it up due to the topic of the thread. I expect that funkyderek will now figure I shouldn't be entrusted with navigating a traffic circle:) but there it is.

I feel I have to address some of your points, with some of my own.

Assuming God exists and is everywhere, and doesn't desire works, how do we connect?
Assuming that everyone and anyone can connect, what's the key?

I would propose it is simply submitting the ego, in a context of love, for love IS the law.
    Belief is cheap, yet priceless.

That is something that can be done regardless of upbringing, health, station in life, wealth, etc.,...

Oh yeah, and when things get difficult don't forget the adage, "sh!t happens!".
