I didn't mean to rule out men getting breast cancer. On the "Race for the Cure" walk, I've seen men in the Survivor's group, and people walking in memory of men who died of breast cancer. It isn't the most known for men, but they do get it.

I just talked to Sharon's mother on the phone...................she moved to California after Sharon died, to be with her son. She had forgotten the day, but was happy I reminded her. She said something was nagging her about today and she thought maybe it was my birthday, which is actually tomorrow, the 7th.

I've even been considering doing a walk for the cure here in Portland next Sunday,

You should do it Kate. If I were a little closer, and next Sunday wasn't my son's birthday, I'd do it with you! I'm feeling guilty about missing the Seattle Race for the Cure this year. I was still nursing an injury. I am running a 10K next month for City of Hope, another great breast cancer research fund raiser. It will clear my conscience finally.

We have done the Komen Race twice since Sharon died, and I plan to do it every year. It is an awesome foundation and the event is just a great time. I encourage everyone to try it once. The number of people who do this 5K walk or 5K run is just amazing. Literally tens of thousands of people all walking to raise money for breast cancer research.

Mulan I hate hijacking this thread.........but

and, I do think it's important to bring awareness no matter how to getting your yearly mamo. My sister was treated for breast cancer a year ago, it's always on my mind now that it's for sure in the family.

Anyway Rachel I've done many 5K walks for breast cancer events, I'm not a runner I think it's great that you are. I was really excited about doing this walk and Odrade was going to do it with me, but I have to cancel it because MY SON IS COMING HERE TO VISIT!!!!Visit Smiley Central!really big smile!

I will be able to do a walk in the future but my son, well I wouldn't miss a second of his visit, I miss him so much! Now I'm pretty excited about seeing him, sorry Marilyn for off the topic you know I loves ya!

((((((((avishai, wednesday,Shakita))))))) I'm sorry for your losses too.

KateVisit Smiley Central! (who really wants to do the happy dance, but it's not appropriate on this thread)

    Mulan and family,

We just went through the anniversaries of 2 close family members last month, both cut off in their prime like Sharon. The pain of loss lessens but it never goes away although it has been 7 and 4 years.

Just yesterday, I read that a school chum died from breast cancer, the 7th this year, oy!

    Get those checkups everyone.

I remember, too. I was here as you eulogized her. I respectfully doff my hat in her honor.

Here Rachel (Princess) and I are (with my niece Tania) at our first Race for the Cure. I missed this year too.............sore foot. We all look alike, and Tania and Rachel have the same voice. Tania is my brother's daughter.
