What Makes A Person A Potential "Apostate"?

That's just a label that they use for those who challenge their distorted application of scripture. They are not to be questioned or corrected because they follow a pattern of 'pure' worship. I am no bible scholar, but everything that I know or think I know, came from their publications. Their own material can expose them and they just shrug it off.

One elder asked me how I was able to give good talks. He mentioned that I sounded like a CO (I think he meant that in a good way). I told him that I take what an elder has said, and then contradict it. He didn't challenge my comment because he knew what I meant. Elders were exploiting their 'I never do wrong' card and implementing all kind of unscriptural rules. The rest of the elders were just sitting on their hands.

One elder said that if you went out in service for 2 hours a month, then you only loved Jehovah for 2 hours that month. Where is that scriptural? I blasted his comment at the next watchtower study and called it tantimount to emotional blackmail. The rest of the congregation was applauding my comment but the elders were stewing. I told one of the elders that they were being used by Satan. Remember Jesus telling Peter, "Get behind me Satan"? That was the point I was making. The PO wanted to come after me and I went straight to him and asked him to prove me wrong. He backed down.

I have no desire to challenge doctrinal issues among bible readers. People who have read the bible from cover-to-cover are entitled to their beliefs. But people who ignore the most fundamental aspects of what it means to be a true Christian are contemptable to me. Lip-service to the scriptures is just that. Their cruelty and distortions demonstrate their lack of understanding. It's nice to pull out the 'imperfection' card. To me, their best intentions have distorted truth and they have a label such as 'apostate' to use whenever they want to continue their lack of understanding.

a desire to grow beyond the infantilized sheeplike state that the publishing company Jehovah's organization keeps it's employees the witnesses in through the propaganda spiritual feeding program

Caleb----Great post. Those elders must've hated you. They must've known you were going to the "other side"......btw, why is that you show no info on the little box where number of posts are or beginning date is???

    Hey Minimus,

I'm not sure why no info shows when I post. It could be that I did something wrong when I registered to post.

To answer one of you questions, I have been a lurker for some time. Reading different posts was therapeutic for me.

I only know of one elder that hates me and he was at Bethel. These elders that I mentioned realized where they were wrong, but didn't like being exposed. My comments made others speak up and they had to concede to being wrong. One of my CO buddies would describe all these elders as 'not getting it'. There exists a mentality among witnesses that it's 'us against them'. Not the unity that they profess.

We have not gone to the dark side. We have just opened our eyes.

My parents allowed me the freedom to think. They were believers at the time I turned into a teen but they already had some doubts but weren't admitting to them. I have always been a good student and it didn't take a lot of research to find out about the truth.

So anyone that is allowed to think is a potential apostate.

That and dubs with really hot bods, they get lots of attention from the outside. Well they get it inside too but it takes the form of giggles.

A love of reading and critical thinking ability.

Smart people join groups like JWs for emotional reasons. It's not lack of a brain, more like hole in the heart, or some sort of void within. People can be intelligent, do well academically, etc. but still have an emotional blind spot when it comes to personal beliefs.

"a hole in the heart" is what makes some people join the religion and leave it. Emotions as opposed to intelligence might be the reason people come and go.
