I live in southern Mississippi. We have churches about 100 feet of each other. No lie. The people around here attend church regularly but are some of the most hypocritical, judge mental, self centered people that I've ever seen.

Yes, there is steady decline in religious affiliation and belief in the USA, and the extent of decline varies a lot by state.
But that decline is more than equalled by deafening noise levels among believers compared to nonbelievers.
You could be forgiven for thinking religious nutters are on the increase, if not everywhere - until you remember the ready availability of the megaphone where even a gnat's heartbeat shatters eardrums.

It's really quite stunning, their utter cluelessness. No one will ever win the US presidency again without carrying at least 40% of the Hispanic vote - at their current rate, Republicans won't get even close to 10%.
Yeah, it's kind of tragically hilarious as this was supposedly the GOP trying to be more appealing to Hispanics! LOL
As much as you "know" that the US is more religious when you are in the UK you just don't really know.
We're not in the UK but in Southern Alberta which is "the Texas of the North". Yup, assholes in pickup trucks everywhere. Every small town here has huge Mormon churches and the religiots make up a sizable chunk of the population.
The UK is very secular by comparison with churches populated by the very old or very traditionalist or people wanting some 'authentic christening experience'. Few are really religious (other than the whacko JWs and the zealot Muslims).
In North America though people go to church on Sunday Morning in droves ... but at least it gives us atheists a quiet time to to go buy Tim Horton's Breakfasts.
So praise Jeeeeeeeezus for that !
