    Hi everyone:

Go here and look at the document numbers on the left hand side of the statements. After the word (Introduction) look for statement number (48).

    Voyager,

Without more details it really doesn't look like the JW was guilty of much...and 11 of em got the beat down...what more do ya want? This just reconfirms the myth of persecution...actually...they are persecuted in some places.

I respect your viewpoint, but on the other hand, the conduct of the one trying to bribe, could have brought on some of that persecution. You must agree that he certainly didn't make things any better for the congregation, now did he? Keep up the good work Brother. Christian love to you and to all your family.

Thanks Voyager. Is this another example of trusting in Jehovah instead of riches?

48.Aleksandr Viktorovich Usenko, a Jehovah's Witness, was reportedly arrested by three officials from the Baku City Procurator's Office on 13 November 1997 after allegedly offering a bribe in exchange for the registration of his congregation as a religious community. He was reportedly taken to Investigation Isolation Prison No. 1, Bailov Prison, where he was allegedly beaten and verbally abused by an investigator. He was subsequently sentenced to three years' probation after being convicted of bribery. He reportedly lodged a complaint about his treatment with the Baku City Procurator.

49.Nazilya Veliyeva, Arif Babayev and Rovshah Nariman ogly Mursalov, members of the same congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, were reportedly called for interrogation and beaten around 16 November 1997. Rovshan Mursalov was allegedly beaten for refusing to sign a statement prepared by the police, and sought medical treatment for a burst eardrum sustained during the beatings. Eleven Jehovah's Witnesses have reportedly lodged complaints of ill-treatment with the Office of the Prosecutor.

This sounds like the same treatment Witness children get who can not sit quiet for 2 hours in a Kingom Hall. I saw many times children beaten by Witnesses in the United States. Who will lodge a complaint to the United Nations on their behalf? GaryB

Thank you brother for your most welcomed thoughts. You are absolutely right. I know that children are beaten at Kingdom Halls, because (I) was one of them that was. Back in the 50s you either sat there and kept your mouth shut, or you got a trip outside.

My folks even went to extremes, my brother and I would get our pants pulled down, right in front of God and everybody, and get a good beating. Some years later when the laws began to come down on this treatment, many Jehovah's Witnesses would not take their children outside where anyone could see the whipping, they would just take the children to the restroom, and whip them in the restroom, where no could see what was going on.

You could hear children screaming in the public talk, all the way from the bathrooms. Terrible way to teach children, that God is love. Thank you so very much Gary Buss for your thoughts, your comments are always so very encouraging. Keep up the good work brother, and christian love to you and your family.----Voyager

I really couldn't have said better myself. The beating wasn't necessary, but if he did try to bribe the officials, then he really could have made things bad for the rest of the witnesses. If he did try to bribe the officials, you know it wasn't just one of the brothers (who did not have a position or some authority) in the congregation. Thanks so very much for you reply, and keep up the good work, its always so good to hear from you.---Voyager
