Inactive Witness Preaches To Me Today

A rather bizzare situation, this morning. I was taking my daughter to the park, as i walk past a row of shops a car horn beeps and shouts me. I turn round and see a car in a disabled parking space with a guy who used to go to my hall smiling and waving to me. I approached an made pleasantries. This guy hasn't been to a meeting in over a year. He's very nice all the same. First thing he says to me is "i hear you've fell away now?" i said yes and that i don't believe it anymore. He then started to preach to me about "the truth" and "you know its the truth" and "people are imperfect, we all make mistakes".

I explained about the royal commission, he had no idea what i was talking about.

I explained that i strongly disagree with shunning and he said "at the end of the day Jesus died for us". I said thats all very well but that doesn't me the JW's have the truth. Catholics, Protestants, Lutherans, Adventists etc all believe in Jesus. He started to go on a bit about how i should read more of the JW books. I said i have and that's precisely what made me leave.

I didnt want to argue, because he's actually a really nice fellow. So i said it was nice to see him and asked what he's up to today. He said "im just taking the wife shopping. Parked up here to put a bet on (we were outside a book makers)" - the irony!!

Said our goodbyes, shook hands and i left.

Most bizarre. He's committing a DFing offense right there and still preaching to me?

I have an inactive friend like that, for years "preaching" to me. But he got a computer and discovered ex-jw you tubes....now he is always telling me what he learned online about jws...things I have been trying to tell him....he's out now.

"people are imperfect, we all make mistakes".

I think this guy might have been inconveniently embarrassed going into a betting shop, so came out with I'm righteous trite because I'm with the truth.

Point to take is dont be surprised when you see any JWS doing something immoral in their social behavior.

I've seen and heard elders involved in pedophilia, adultery, crooked business dealings and the lot.

Part of their social irresponsibility comes in virtue of them accepting Jesus as their personal redeemer/savior.

    .........and they really believe that.

He's like the salesman who recommends you use a soap powder that he himself can hardly be bothered using.

Perhaps some inactive drop-aways like this fellow think that "at least" they're not as "bad" or "weak" as others so take the opportunity to preach. The organization was full of people like him decades ago - so I see nothing's changed

He was nice to you - which is why he gets away with his limp-wristed defense of JW organization.

I'd be inclined to say to him, "Friend, if you really believe JW organization is the truth, you'd be doing everything humanly possible to put your words into action. So, may I respectfully suggest you begin to practice what you preach - then at least you won't come across like those lukewarm believers Christ said he would vomit out. Have a nice day!"

    FINKELSTEIN:

You are right about Witnesses who imagine because they accept Jesus or believe their religion is "truth" it makes up for whatever vices they have.

In the same way, they think their ministry is a whitewash for whatever bad they do. They may not come out and actually say this but I believe they think it.

Chances are he's a republican too.

Jokes aside, I have encountered a few ex-JWs, not just fairly recent inactive ones, who have done similar things. The JWs is a cult that negatively influence people, and the degree of that influence varies.

To put it in Christian terms, count your blessings. To put it in secular terms, some of us have many reasons to be very grateful by leaving and maintaining clarity.

Inactive or former JW's who still believe, are the most messed up individuals of all. They use denial, delusion and any number of other mind games to soothe their consciences when they feel guilty for not being faithful about beliefs that weren't true in the first place.

I once met a man on the bus who was DFed, but had nothing but good to say about the Watchtower. If I brought up anything negative, he would tell my friend (who was with me), that I was a liar and the JWs were the best people on earth and the only true religion. It was a unique and baffling experience. He never mentioned why he was DFed, but I'll assume it wasn't for apostasy.
