The locking of threads.

When I had a thread deleted with no explanation at all, I wrote to Simon several times, also Rayzorblade and Scully and Craig and Ozziepost AND Jst2laws before I got an answer. I am aware that Simon has a life; but by his own admission, very few threads get locked/deleted. If a mod takes the time to lock a thread, is spending another 2 minutes writing a brief explanation such a big deal?

That's usually all that people want, a reason.

Can girls be involved in pissing matches?

Only if we can figure out how to do it standing up!

    TeeJay,

I have far from misspoken myself into a corner and you trying to imply that is typical of your little games. You made one apology that I have ever seen and that was in the thread HS mentioned. That does not constitute the "many times" RF spoke of. Just because I have not posted in the threads you have posted on for a long time doesn't mean I haven't read them. Do you think everyone on this board is as blind and stupid as a tennis ball? Come on TeeJay, you are much smarter than that.

    Stinky:

What you suggest sounds reasonable in principle but often (and I am not referring to you) the people who are often deleted are not usually in a mood to be reasonable. Using Trauma Hound as an example. When he got out of control and had to be banned from posting he created obscene user names and flooded the board with his crap. Keeping one moderator up most of the night watching out for his crap. Once he cooled down he realized he had been an ass and apologized. He is still here. (which kind of throws egg in the face of all those Kingdom Hall/elder references).

What often happens is that any explanation offered is challenged by the author. Then several third parties chirp in. It then turns into a huge discussion about moderation. Several new threads are started by the third parties, making the moderation of the board the primary topic. Even Ravyn's post today is an example of that.

Explanations made were rejected. The thread then turned into a general attack on moderation and on Simon, new threads are formed. People start make grandiose good bye threads, trying to make some kind of dramatic statement. Bandwagon jumpers who from day one criticized Simon (Yizuman) had to get in their free shots.

This is what happens when a moderator tries to explain their actions. Moderators starting new threads looking for community support of their actions cause as much trouble. Of course all the little snide shots scattered throughout the threads ("I'm sure this is going to get deleted" "Before Simon gets trigger happy" etc )

So unless the explanation is done via personal message or email I don't think it would help much. But even if done in private mail it wouldn't stop some malcontents from posting such private content elsewhere to garnish support for themselves and their 'woe is me' campaign. Right Franky?

    Stinky,

You PMed me about that and I gave you my opinion. I'm not a mod but I think I am close to giving you the reason. If you would like, I can make something up and PM you again. I hate to see you so upset.

    Uzzah-

You don't have to explain to me how things work and how some people react, I know. I think a simple PM when a thread is locked or deleted is better that NOTHING.

    Seven-

You misunderstood my PM. Actually I was unclear. What I spoke of happened a while ago. You hate to see me upset? I'm not actually , but I write like I am, huh? I need to work on that. I'm actually quite happy, via a fluke, I got the night off from work. Wanna call me? J/K

    Buh-bye!

    Stinky,

This will probably make me an enemy, but I think HS's comments were mean, unnecessary and off-topic; but the "best regards" was a nice touch though.

Strangely enough it will not make enemies, at least not from my standpoint. I can honestly say that I do not take this Board terribly seriously, certainly not seriously enough to want to make enemies, and I am quite sure that in 'real-life' TJ and I would probably get on quite well. I am certainly impressed with his creative writing, which I have commended him for. That is why I just singled out his 'on-line' persona, which may be close to the reality of his true nature or a million miles from it - who is to know? Of course I take issue with your description of my post on the following grounds:

What you call 'mean', I call realistic. What you call 'uneccessary', I call essential, and what you call 'off-topic', I call a correct assessment on your part. I was way off topic, are are the vast majority of posts to this board after the eighth post. As for my 'best regards', they were as you will note sent to Dave, as I do wish him my very best regards. Any man who can bear his soul on a discussion Board ( as Dave did in his 'Bethel' series ) that has a dart-board as its backdrop is a better man that I....

Best regards, sincerely meant SP - HS

    HS-

I'm not going to press the issue (although the argumentative part of me really wants to) . I am further pushing the thread off-topic.

Best regards to you as well .

    Stinky,

I'm still working and expecting an e-mail from one of my reps with some large graphic files in them. I can't use the phone until I get the e-mail. You wouldn't like talking to me on the phone anyway, right now I have talked my way into a corner and my ass is on fire. Teejay loves to think he has shaken someone up. He's cute that way.

    HS,

Bare my soul? I just thought I was trying to pick up chicks and write something that is set in stone like god. My soul is in the other room sipping on a scotch and watching the move Hope Floats for the fiftieth time. I have a real thing for Sandra Bullock.

    Dave
