The prophecies that russel made for 1914 were the end of the gentile times and the end of the 'time of trouble'. How the hell the gentile times ended is a good question. Certainly in no concrete way that could be proven. All non jews have been doing since then what they did before then.

The time of trouble that russel predicted had suppesedly started in 1974 (i believe). This unrest of the masses was to end in 1914, not start. Of course, the wt rewrote it's own history to suggest that the bible students actually made a true prophecy.

The wt has claimed that knorr correctly predicted the resurrection of the league of nations in the form of the un. However, i read that it was common knowledge, back then, that it was to be reformed. So, nothing special about knorr's statement.

The good doctor is correct, as always.

When we were good little Dubs, we all we certain that every single Watchtower prophecy and prediction came true or would soon come true, so it should come as no surprise that active Dubs today retain the same illusion.

When you examine the Watchtower's teaching, and look for predictions that came about WHEN predicted and AS predicted, you will find volumes and volumes of back-pedalling and revisionism, and NOT ONE SINGLE WORD that came to pass WHEN predicted and AS predicted.

The year 1914 is an excellent example. Originally the WTS taught that 1914 would bring armageddon and the end of the world. It didn't, of course, so AFTER 1914 the WTS revised its own history (and borrowed a page from the Millerite movement) by "clarifying" their understanding. Christ came INVISIBLY in 1914, they now say.

I expect that someday they'll get new light telling them that Armageddon came invisibly in 1975, but the worldwide apostate community has beaten them to the punch on that prophecy. In fact, the worldwide apostate community is rapidly co-opting all the avenues, alleys and escape hatches that the WTS might someday use by announcing them in advance, before Jehovah's Holy Spirit (tm) reveals it to the snoozing geezers in Brooklyn.

Just as the present generation of JWs loks down their noses at the primitive and error-filled doctrinal legacy of Russell, Rutherford and Knorr-Franz, so the Dubs of the future will dismiss the "memory" of Ted Jaracz with a sniffle and the excuse, "He was simply a fallible old man, and he was crazy and pathological besides. Our leaders today are much more closely atuned to Jehovah's truth. Why, Look! - we celebrate birthdays and Christmas, we don't practice shunning, we accept blood transfusions, we operate charities and we strive to manifest the personality of Christ, much as Russell originally taught, only to be later perverted by Rutherford, Knorr-Franz and Jaracz."

The Watch Tower Corporation did say "Religion is a snare and a racket!". I'm not sure if that was intended as a prophecy, but it sure turned out to be true in my opinion. GaryB

False teachers and false prophets . Jesus spoke of someone saying, "Look there He is or Here He is...or He is in the inner chambers..." He said "DO NOT LISTEN".Every eye will see Him. How is it that they contradict Christ's own words and tell us that He returned invisibly? False = Lie.

Nathan.......have you been smoking the dammed old crack again dammit? Your in one of those moods again aren't ya?

Hey....on a serious note.......do you think what you said is really possible? It certainly would keep many more members to future generations that come along that could easily assimilate a change such as the above. Old dates and prophecies, and backround is lacking in newer generations of witnesses who could give a rat about old watchtower history. I think it could be pulled off......but whether it would head that direction as the above states......I don't know. Nice post BTW

    Hi Gumby,

I think that the religion of the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society is, and has always been, a religion in transition.

It was born in 19th century America, a true product of its times, with a Millerite and Pyramidologist pedigree. It's entire history has been one of revision as the "light" from above flickered, sometimes as fast as a disco strobe accompanying the BeeGees singing "Stayin' Alive".

Like an old, old knife, it has lost the edge it had when it was new, and the present leaders are too uneducated and too unimaginative to develope new visions, having been embarrassed by past failures of WTS prophecy. The old once-sharp knife becomes a dull spoonlike thing.

Each administration of the WTS tries to distance itself from the one before it - Rutherford debunked the Pyramidology of his teacher (CTR) as Satanic, but promised that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob would be resurrected in San Diego, CA in 1925. Knorr and Franz, who were part of Rutherford's crew, "refined" The Truth(tm) and gave us their astonishing insights into Bible Chronology, climaxing with the 1975 prediction. The present administration is busy re-writing the history of the WTS, and is caught between Scylla and Charybdis. They compromise their way out of their dilemma, softening the hard stance of just a few years ago, grinding away that radical sharp edge to fashion a spiritual spoon with which to administer their pablum.

It won't happen fast - but it will happen. First the present crop of true believers in the GB have to go to their reward in the dirt. Then a new generation of mighty men will take over, and they will continue the deconstruction that began soon after 1975. The "generation" teaching, soon to be followed by the pivot date of 1914, the transfer of a whole manual full of former offenses into "matters of conscience," and the financial weakening that is already at work - they have nothing to sell, they must beg for donations - and which will continue as lawsuits assail the walls of the Tower and the aging non-productive geezers consume vastly more than $14 a month in resources.

    I have a dream.

I remember a talk once that said religion is like a leaking water pipe that is not connected to any true flowing water source.

I personally know that is a true prophecy reflecting the stagnant teachings and spiritual paralysis of the Jehovah's Witnesses...

I think we're all forgetting that the return of christ was invisible I don't know that you can disprove that or prove it for that matter . Russel just forgot the word invisible that's all .

They have been saying they expect to be persecuted , maybe that's another one .

I remember one old guy who was a witness saying that we would all grow old and fat and then die. Most of his prophecy has proven true but some didn't get fat.
