Bravo Cha-Ching! Well said.
Fact: 99.9% of active J.W.'s who inquire after your "spirituality" will use any relevant information to stab you in the back. It's mandatory in their cult-world - they're "doing it out of love."
If anyone dared to question me regarding my non-attendance at the KH or assemblies, my reply will be, "Thanks for your concern, but I have private & personal concerns which I can't discuss with anyone at the moment." Conversation stopper! (TM)
It's impossible really to come up with any formulation of words that works ( you are dealing with indoctrinated cult members ,after all. ) I'm always very wary of what to say , knowing that even the most innocuous comment often gets twisted. In reality though - most JWs don't say anything.
Coming to clean your mother's house, and this is what your sister says? "I just want you to know. We know you are not disfellowshipped, but you don't believe in the name of Jehovah. You are an apostate, and we ARE going to shun you"
Okaay sis, you're cleaning the bathroom!
I guess you begin with the end in mind.
It will NEVER matter what you say...reason and logic will not penetrate.
You see, they are on the side of the "Almighty" as defined for them by a religion. Implicitly built in to that is their "rightness".
So you just say what will make you feel the best going forward.
Good thread Stuckinarut
I had an experience way back in 2007 a few years after I exited the JW cult. I was in a store shopping and a JW lady and her adult daughter whom I had not seen in about 12 years confronted me when we saw each other in an aisle.
JW Lady : " Hi Flipper how are you doing ? "
Flipper : " Doing well , how are you both doing ? "
JW Lady : " So when are you coming back to the truth ? "
Flipper : " I AM in the truth ! I'm a very truthful person, honest, and the truth is within me. "
JW Lady : ( With a sarcastic smile on her face ) " You know what I mean . When are you coming back to meetings ? "
Flipper : " Well, I respect that you feel you are doing what you feel is right going to meetings, however - my conscience won't let me attend anymore due to the WT Society's child abuse policies. JW children are being abused and the police are not called and pedophiles are not brought to justice by the police. "
JW Lady : " Flipper, you know that the worldly news tells lies about Jehovah's people all the time, you cannot believe it. "
Flipper : " Well hey, I'm sure the news media doesn't just make this stuff up about Catholics and Mormon child abuse . Why would they print fake stuff up about Jehovah's Witnesses ? "
JW Lady : ( Stammers a bit ) " Well you need to get back to the meetings ! "
Flipper : " I'm doing fine and well as I am , thanks. I appreciate your concern, you both have a great day. "
And with that I walked off leaving them holding their tongues in their mouth.
Peace out, Mr. Flipper
Yeah I don't use the expression " Bible trained conscience " when I talk to these people, because my conscience is on a much higher plane than someone with a " Bible trained conscience" - my conscience is more ethical and moral
When my mother asked me why we weren't going I said: "I've learned some disturbing things about watchtower and child abuse that have me upset, so I'm waiting on Jehovah."
She changed the subject.
"Thanks, but my God-given Bible trained conscience doesn't allow me to associate, now that I know a multitude of disturbing facts" - stuck
I said something similar to two of my JW relatives. Their response, "We haven't heard anything."
That was the end of any further discussion except them demanding that we must put those things out of mind and attend meetings anyway, even as they had not attended in many years but only pretend they do.
As millie210 said: "It will NEVER matter what you say...reason and logic will not penetrate."
What I have said is:
" there are some things I've observed that bother my conscience and there isn't a place for a single woman with no intention of pioneering who isn't pining for a husband."
<cheesy grin>
exit.
and curtsey or bow....
