MMMMMMM!!! Have some saganaki for me Nina.

Although they have many cultural heritage festivals here in Detroit they don't have any for Romanians or Norwegians so I'm a bit left out in the cold. Guess I'll just have to stick with the Jazz and Techno fests.

Have fun and thank you for sharing the pictures!

Hey Nina, you scanned the photos on your own. Good for you!

You should have posted the one where your mother and her brothers were in full Greek costume. The look on their faces was priceless.

Actually if your half Greek, wouldn't that make Jennie 1/4?

You're right -- you know math wasn't my best subject! Actually, Karen scanned them for Jennie's brochure and she's gone now so I have to get that scanner at home working. I'd love to post those photos!

Cruzanheart: that was so cool. I love looking at old photos.

Where I live here in Toronto, I am right at the edge of the Greek neighbourhood.

Excellent food, excellent dancing, excellent everything.

And yes, shera (I have to admit), there's no more making fun of men in kilts (Scots) and Greek Evzones. Maybe there's a connection , but I'll give the Greeks, top marks for food you can at least: identify.

I think it's fun to partake of ones heritage, and have something the WTS frowns upon: F U N

Next Apostafest I'll have to show everyone how to do the Hassapiko. It's a fun line dance that gets faster and faster depending on the leader -- great aerobic exercise!

    Cruzan,

WFAA did a morning story this morning regarding the Dallas Greek Festival. The children were dressed in full traditional costume and giggling as the Why Guy talked to them. The children were adorable. Have a great time!

    Yassou Nina!!

I am 1/8th Greek - my great-grandfather came to Australia from Crete in the 1860s. He changed his name from Con to Tom to fit in with the locals. Unfortunately he adapted completely to the local way of life, so his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids (like me) know very little about his Greek heritage.

One of my mother's cousins did some family research and actually managed to travel to his village - and sat on the bed he used to sleep on!!!! My sister and I have also been to Crete, but we didn't have enough time to get to that village. But Crete was wonderful. It felt like I had come home.

Have a great time at the Greek fesitval - have some dolmades for me, I love them!
