    Dakota,

"I'm still waiting to see a quote where Bush ever said Saddam was behind Sept 11."

He didn't ever outright say it! He implied all kinds of things about him having links to Al Quaeda. Now he and his administration are backing off and that's the problem. I wish there was a politician who had some freaking balls and would stand by what they say or at the very least apologize for being misleading. All I'm asking for is some honesty!! Why are politicians such bastards?

Links to Al Qeada and being behind the Sept 11th attacks are two entirely different things. The media keeps saying that the meeting between Saddam operatives and a top Al Qeada official are very thin, but the country, Switzerland, I think (not sure which one) says they are strong. Who do we believe? There is supposed to be a report coming out soon detailing much of this and I'm looking forward to it, myself.

However, I do have to agree that politicians aren't high on my list of most liked either. Anymore, it seems to be which one is the lessor of two evils. And even there, we all cannot agree. But, in this case, I feel much of what is coming out of prominent Democrats to be quite dishonest. The media could use a dose of honesty too.

    For Immediate Release
    Office of the Press Secretary
    March 19, 2003

    Presidential Letter
Text of a Letter from the President to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate

    March 18, 2003

Dear Mr. Speaker: (Dear Mr. President:)

Consistent with section 3(b) of the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 (Public Law 107-243), and based on information available to me, including that in the enclosed document, I determine that:

    (1) reliance by the United States on further diplomatic and other peaceful means alone will neither (A) adequately protect the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq nor (B) likely lead to enforcement of all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq; and

    (2) acting pursuant to the Constitution and Public Law 107-243 is consistent with the United States and other countries continuing to take the necessary actions against international terrorists and terrorist organizations, including those nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001.

    Sincerely,

    GEORGE W. BUSH

Now, show where that says Saddam caused 9-11.Or, does the meaning of the words "consitent with" escape you?

I was really busy and was going to drop it but I've got a bit of time so decided to reply.

I've never said that Bush said Saddam caused or was behind 9/11 nor does the title of this thread imply that? The media and the Bush Administration implied that Saddam was INVOLVED in 9/11. Notice I said the Bush ADMINISTRATION. I'm not directing all of this at Bush since Bush's cabinet were talking on shows and saying things more than Bush was imo.

    Reuters article:

Despite distancing himself from part of what Cheney said, Bush frequently suggested in speeches in the run-up to war that there was a link between Iraq and the al Qaeda network.

In recent speeches, he has called Iraq the "central front" in the war on terror despite the failure to find conclusive evidence that Saddam was developing weapons of mass destruction.

    from the Boston Globe:

Evidence of a connection, if any exists, has never been made public. Details that Cheney cited to make the case that the Iraqi dictator had ties to Al Qaeda have been dismissed by the CIA as having no basis, according to analysts and officials. Even before the war in Iraq, most Bush officials did not explicitly state that Iraq had a part in the attack on the United States two years ago.

But Cheney left that possibility wide open in a nationally televised interview two days ago, claiming that the administration is learning "more and more" about connections between Al Qaeda and Iraq before the Sept. 11 attacks. The statement surprised some analysts and officials who have reviewed intelligence reports from Iraq.

    Chicago Sun-Times

The president has insisted that Iraq is the central front in the war on terrorism, a continuation of the administration's effort to link Iraq to the attack on the World Trade Center. While almost three-quarters of the public believe that Saddam Hussein was personally involved in the attack, the polls after the president's recent speech show that less than half believe that Iraq is the ''central front'' of the war on terrorism.

What I've posted above is along the lines of what Aztec is saying. The Bush administration implied/suggested/incinuated that Saddam was part of/linked to/helped?/involved/ or whatever word you want to choose.
