Of course they talk about all the really wacky ones everyone knows about, Jones Town, Charles Mason, Heaven's gate and Branch Dravidian.

However if you add up all the unnecessary deaths these cults have contributed too (a thousand and fifty people) it pales in comparison to the number of people who have been directly or indirectly killed my the Jehovah's Witnesses.

By the way all of the cults mention above are no more, except for the Watchtower Bible and Truck society.

The little ones seem to get all the attention and the big ones just slide on by.

I'm in the UK and currently watching a TV series about cults. Tonight's show was about the The Children of God now known as The Family International and wow, were they ever dangerous? Child abuse was rampant!

But as you say, they probably pale by comparison to the damage WT has done.

The damage the WTBTS does is committed in hospitals or a believer's private home or at a Hospice......the ban on blood transfusions, which in turn causes or contributes to a neat and tidy death.

The Cause of death will refer to the overriding failure of a disease or trauma but never the fact that blood was refused.

In the JW world you accept what may be an unnecessary death or a shorter life span.........with grace and maybe even pride.

The congregation celebrates your decision........ then you are forgotten. And so it has been for some 70 years.

Virtually no JW remains untouched by the loss of a loved one who might have survived with a necessary blood transfusion.

These quiet dignified deaths swamp the other cults with the exception of the madness of the Christian Scientists who in their day refused any and all medical assistance.

The JWs embrace the ban on blood and wear it as a badge of honor.

    Steve The link to what.

Not just blood transfusions there are probably more that die from suicides than anything else.

Lots of "probably" in these claims.

Does anyone have any hard evidence that the rate of suicide is higher than in the general population for instance?

    Who was talking about suicide?

Love your use of the word Occult, New boy.

It always makes me chuckle when jw's freak out about paganism and the occult when they are occultists and you can't get more pagan than your God requiring a human blood sacrifice to be satiated.

    Hey, New Boy,

The words occult and cult don’t mean the same thing. You might want to look them up.

Also, you should provide references and/or links to support your claims.

    I’m just sayin’, is all!

I don’t think suicides would be higher among JWs. It’s taught that suicide is a major sin and risks no resurrection so this could be factored in.

If suicide was an absolute ticket to the ‘New System’, I think we might see higher rates but the WT has never taught that. They actually suggest the opposite.

Really so you want proof that more Jehovah's Witnesses kill themselves every year then in the general population.

I can only offer you the information I personal know.

Fact according to the internet one person out of 7,280 will kill themselves this year.

Fact, I have know eleven Jehovah's Witnesses or ex-Jehovah's Witnesses (some of whom couldn't live with the guilt of leaving that organization) who have taken their own lives.

I have met over 900 Jehovah's Witnesses that I have known personally. So personally judging by these numbers it looks like you are seven times more likely to kill yourself if you have had some kind of contact with that organization.

I don't need to know their names but how many people do you know that have killed themselves that have been associated to that organization?
