The JW site is ranked 841 globally by Alexa. I don't think they are lying about their stats.
Why so few XJWs online?

You make a good point.
Many ex-JWs have moved on and it wasn't healthy for them to keep talking about the religion. Other ex-JWs have moved on but also like the online community and continue to post here.
Some ex-JWs are afraid because they have family still in and they keep a low profile.
However, with that recent show with Leah Remini, some wonder if there could be a similar expose on the JWs. If that ever happened, surely some ex-JWs are going to HAVE to show their faces.

Simon: I don't doubt the stats. I`m just saying that its not that impressive.
- They have 8+ million members.
- All members are urged to download their publications when going to the meetings.
- They have at least 10 meetings per month.
- Books may be downloaded several times by the same person who needs to manage space on his tablet.
- They are told to show videos in field service.
- They tell their members that God REQUIRES them to read and listen to everything they produce.
For instance, assuming half of them having access to the internet, you should see about 8 million magazine downloads per months! Not taking into account the studies and the "interested ones".

Of my 39 first cousins and 4 siblings that have all left the JW cult, (all baptized and 4th generation), only two of us really care what is going on in JW land. I think it is because everyone got out at a young age, went to college, married "worldly" people and basically got on with their lives and never looked back. Now decades have passed and they really don't care what some insignificant religion is up to. Where as Nate and I went into full time service for years and years. When we finally had enough, it was hard to cope with the wasted years. The internet helps immensely, but I wish I did not need to come here every single day. I envy the ones who never look back.

In other words, to get to point where the JW history no longer dominates one's life....

I also agree with Magwitch. I too went into the pioneer work, Bethel. I wish so much that I had not wasted so much of my life. It's like I am addicted to try to understand why.
I would love to be an ex, ex JW, but the child abouse issue just eats at me as I saw first hand how molesters are allowed free run in the KH's. But if I had not saw it I would probably still be a blind follower.

Those stats are from 2013, they were still ramping up their online web presence having "seen the light" about the interwebs.
I expect they have higher stats now but whatever the case, I don't think there is any basis for coming up with claims about people's behaviors and motivations even if you had access to the raw access-data, it just wouldn't be conclusive. Web analytics isn't always that clear cut and simple.

I respectfully disagree that there are few ex-jws online.
Though I don't blame people for moving on with their lives, when I look at the damages that the watchtower actually causes in people's life, I do feel that there is a social responsibility that should not be ignored.
There are many, many different ways of being socially responsible without being a loud activist or having high visibility. Besides, I think that many of us had it with saving the world from something. I am respectful of any way in which every single ex-jw chooses to live afterwards. I provide support and my thoughts, but I am not on a mission to convince or save anyone. I share my thoughts and opinions, but I am in no way interested in showing anyone the light.
