A company I used to work for sent us to a customer service seminar, and the man giving the seminar swore he had a foolproof trick for remembering names , and he attempted to prove it by meeting us all during a break and trying to remember after the seminar. He SO got mine wrong. Which only made me feel utterly forgettable, since he did remember the majority correctly.

I remember that my Mom even had trouble remembering OUR names when we were kids growing up......she would holler for one of us and start "callin' tha roll"...which sounded something like...."Ja....Syb....Co...Jod...uh...Shotsie!!!".....so I remedied that with my kids....I started callin' 'em "Doodle"....now I just call EVERYONE Doodle......that way, it doesn't matter who I'm talkin' to ....they KNOW I'm addressing them....and I don't hafta remember what their name is...

I have been having this problem lately myself, not only with peoples names but with cars, and everything else I have known in the past. Sometimes at McDonalds I can't think of the name of a biscuit I want to order, or at home I can't think of the name of a dish I want someone to pass to me. I get so frustrated at times. Almost all the old movie actors I knew I can't remember their names anymore. Old age has found me.

    iiz2cool,

Don't worry to much about it, everyone has the problem. I usually try to associate them with someone I already know. Like Tom = My son etc. Ask them for their name again, let them know you remember the face but you can't recall the name (because you are awful at names). I usually just walk up to people that may remember me or may not and just introduce myself again. Like "Hi, I'm Been there, I met you on JWD". That way they remember me now in the present and aren't trying to figure out who I am, from where. I hate it when I know I recognize someone but for the life of me can't remember where I know them from.
