Work: Either become a robot, or we'll get rid of you

That is a verbatim quote. I was told, "The client is not paying you to be yourself. It is paying you to be a robot. You surely have at least the intellectual capacity to do that."

I have an interview tomorrow. A year and more empty on the resume'. I asked before but now your advice is critical: Do I lie about being sick (I am a terrible liar) or tell the truth?

By the way, I just can't be a robot. This is why I was such a bad dub too.

The state of your health is not of their concern so long as it will not prevent you from doing your job. They should not even be asking you about your medical history.

If they want to know about a year gap in your employment, just tell them that you had taken some personal time for yourself. Don’t even think in terms of health issues… this was just some time off for yourself… no big deal.

I wont tell you what to do since you aren't a robot.

If this is what they are telling you at the NEW job, them maybe you should keep looking for another job...

Here is something I learned from contracting work... if you find yourself working for an sshole keep working for him but at the same time keep looking for work. As soon as you find something better, tell the sshole to fck off. Basically take him for all you can and then dump him... that'll show him just how much of a robot you are.

I feel much better now. She is my heroine. Very much like me.

That's right, beryl, think happy thoughts. Elsewhere's advice is right on the money. My daughter made the mistake of thinking she could reform jerky employers. She was not happy until she found a great boss. She worked temp jobs for over a year. Now she is on easy street, empowered, vital, appreciated...

No, elsewhere, that's what I am being told at my present job.

My manager has been telling me this for months now, but never so blatantly. She said I wasn't getting her "hints". She backpedalled on the "robot" thing, stating,"Well, maybe that's not the word."

I said, "Cheryl, that IS the word. "

I've been praying to get that job tomorrow (old habits die hard); the HR manager at this place reacted most favorably to my humorous cover letter. Extremely favorably. I have the skills; there buried within the 18 month benzo w/d (Dr Day, hey, you said I should be feeling better by now????) and my lack of confidence.

My coworker said that Cheryl has been telling that to others for years now; everyone to whom she has told that has gotten out except her.
