We had a game that we played as children using chestnuts as well..
it was called "throw the chestnuts as hard as you could at the bullies, and high tale your ass outta there before they could see who shot it"
only a fun game if you could run. This game works well with crabapples too

Anyways, over here in North America (Canada and the United States...maybe Mexico) we have so many bloody trees that drop nuts/acorns and seeds of one sort or another, well...we just leave them for the raccoons, skunks, opossums, birds and maybe even bears/deer/moose/caribou.
Hockey is way more exciting!
Butternuts are nice, but more for eating, but anyways...and don't forget walnuts, pecan trees.
We like to create lovely dishes/desserts with regards to our local nut bearing trees/bushes.
