Governing Body - Time in Ministry

    Hello all,

    Is there any transparency in how many hours on the ministry the governing body members do on the ministry? By this I mean the physical act of going door to door in their area. I guess it is plausible that they would count overseas trips and working on publications as part of their ministry, but this is not what they encourage from the Jw on the street.

    Is it possible for a GB member to be reproved or otherwise for not going out in service? I’ve been told it should happen in principle, but my knowledge and instinct tells me that in practicality a bethelite blowing the whistle on a GB members none engagement with ministry would be highly unlikely, and if it did happen would quickly be shot down/covered up by other senior members.

    Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

    I have wondered the same thing. Certainly, they are counted as pioneers.

    Maybe the GB will post on jw dot org pictures of each of them knocking on a door or at least standing next to a cart...

    When I was in Bethel in the mid sixties and serving in the Brooklyn Heights congregation where many if not most of the "heavies" were assigned, I assisted the Assistant Congregation Servant (as he was then called) in compiling and recording the monthly Publishers service slips,

    Knorr, for one, never showed more than a few hours, usually in single digits. Most of it likely came from giving talks

    Another of my duties was weekend receptionist at the 124 Columbia Heights building; first order of business on Sunday morning: go to the St. George Hotel lobby and pick up copies of the Sunday NY Times for Knorr, Suiter, George Couch, etc. It it was common to see many of them lounging around the home in sports clothes (we used to call them the "Ban-Lon Brigade")

    Power has its advantages apparently. I was always under the impression their time came from public speaking and whatever else they figured mattered...but not much in the lowly door knocking routine.

    Most of the GB know its a scam they are running and FS is utter non-sense. So they would have their own excuses not to go door to door. Like pretending to be terribly busy…
