2014 seems like yesterday, but it was 7 years ago, and there were some JWs hoping that would be the end what with it being the 100th anniversary of the last days.
Has anyone still in or otherwise heard anything about JWs think we only have 12 months before Armageddon?

The silly thing is that there is No Basis for thinking Armageddon or the Great Tribulation or " The End" or a " New World " are going to happen, ever.
No Basis at all, as the Bible has been discredited as the word of god, and as a book of prophecy.
People who think otherwise are Deluded Fantasists, and doomed to lifelong disappointment.

I remember years ago on the ministry one old householder telling me a JW had knocked on his door and assured him that Armageddon was coming within a couple of years "100% sure". He remembered the year of the visit clearly because England had just won the soccer World Cup (1966) .
It's just a simple marketing trick really ( just like the never ending sale at your local carpet warehouse - "must end soon" ) - but it is amazing how the Society are able to sustain it to the rank and file while at the same time making long term building plans.

The reason they are building is that the end is so soon. With all the resurrected after Armageddon they will need these facilities for education work.
That is their spin on it. I heard it at an assembly one time from a DO when that was still a thing. Like you said they are slick salesman playing mental tricks on unsuspecting people.

I think a lot of JWs think the end is soon. Covid has made many think that... I have also noticed that certain JWs have a little bit of an attitude because they are tired of living in ‘this system of things’.
I know one who sounded like the wicked witch wishing punishment on everybody.
They didn’t plan for the future or retirement (because of bad advice and hype) and are now struggling and want to be rescued from the predicament they are in. I’ll bet that JWs with a better monetary or material situation feel that when the end comes it comes. Whereas those people who knocked themselves out pioneering and pursuing poverty (and who criticized those who DIDN’T) want it to be over and to hell with the rest of the world.

The GB men have been exploiting the Virus problem to its fullest extent ramping up the believable acceptance of Armageddon just around the corner..
This is the reason why I think most JWS are not well mentally balanced and crippled by their own ignorance.
Social restrictions are starting to be lifted and churches are opening up , which means the Kingdom Halls of fearmongering bullshit will reopen.
