Hi Hotdog,
I used to run psychometric tests for a company I worked for. It's just a means of measuring your personality, stengths, weaknesses, skills and abilities etc. The ones I used to run covered personality profile, career profile, spelling, speed & accuracy, mechanical reasoning, numerical reasoning, logical reasoning, spatial reasoning and verbal reasoning.
They're nothing to be afraid of - the tests they use depends on the type of job you are going for. You can't really prepare for them as such, but if mathematics is involved in the job, you could brush up on the basics of maths such as fractions, decimals etc in case you have a numerical test.
I don't really have an awful lot of faith in the personality/strengths/weaknesses profile because a lot of people will give the answers that are expected of them to make themselves sound good. Also, you can learn what type of answers are the best and what employers want to hear etc so the test results can be flawed.
You can't really cheat with the aptitude tests though, because you are either good at maths, mechanics, spelling etc, or you're not.
Hope it all goes well with you.

Thanks for the tip - If they test my spelling I'm screwed.

Look if you want to really have some fun with this BS test...eat two twinkies and drink a regular coke cola right before you take the test! Maverick

Hotdog,
Thanks for the tip - If they test my spelling I'm screwed.
Err...I think that is the least of your worries, looking at SM62's list!

Good luck! Spanner

First, welcome.
Second, it's not a big deal. In fact, on some tests, it's easy to spot in which way you are expected to answer if you want to appear "normal".

I have taken the test twice, and twice denied employment because I supposedly "did not pass". If I find a prospective employer requires this test, I immediately withdraw my application. IMHO, it is used as a ploy for discrimination and denial of employment without being required to give a valid reason, since they are not required by law to show you the results of the test. Therefore, they cannot be held legally liable if they turn you down. The test, IMHO, is a sham and a crock.
If I were psychotic in nature, I would not have an argument. However, for the past twenty plus years, I have held top level management positions in the jewelry, and later on, in the transportation industries. I have also been bonded.
Not trying to make you paranoid about the test - just my personal experience. Your test may be administered by a different firm and used for legitimate reasons.

Exactly what berylblue said. You can either give truthful answers to personality questions, or give the answers that you think they want. Choose options that show you are calm, hard-working, get along with everyone, prepared to go that extra mile, thorough, accurate with excellent attention to detail, trustworthy, can work alone, can work as part of a team, excellent communication skills, lots of energy, confident, reliable, dedicated........in other words do what I did and lie through your teeth

Probably why I failed! As an exJW, my conscience would not allow me to give them the answers I knew they wanted to hear. I chose honesty, and was penalized for it.
