So I'm an going to guess he was a functioning alcoholic... how did that work with his closest workers? Was he gay too? His anti-wife statement in the Children book makes me think he was not hetero.... that's fine too but let it come to light if true...

Rutherford was a WT super star. He had handlers. And his handlers had suppliers for all of his needs, wants and any desires. Rutherford with his swagger and crudeness, like a snake oil salesman, brought in a lot of money from naive, humble folk. He sold them a dream... Millions Now Living Will Never Die... A bit off topic. I was PIMI for nearly 30 years and a PIMO for 10 years. In those 40 years I had never heard of Joe Ruds booze escapades, or Beth Sarim, until I come onto this forum. In fact I never fully understood the whole religion until I came on here. Unbelievable.

What i do know from Crises of Conscience, this forum and JW Survey is:

I think it's partly because the cultural norms around drinking were different then (prohibition in parts of the USA notwithstanding). Also, remember he was very well off and from the upper middle classes and the rules are completely different for them.

Its like the old cliché of poor people are mad, rich people are eccentric.
