I got this notification from ex-JW Reddit today via email:

Guys, my parents found out I was posting here

A little over two months ago, my pimi family and I (F19) went to the convention. Well, my dad somehow saw the post I took during the convention, and he told my Uber pimi mom. " By the time I clicked on the link the poor kid had removed his original post.

Dang, I really felt for the kid. Busted by his folks for posting and reading ex-JW stuff DURING the convention. I told 3rd gen about it, and she asked "WHAT teenager would even listen the a convention with a tablet in their hand?" and added.."No wonder the kids today are clueless about what they believe!"

I thought about what she said,..... and laughed...yes, a lot of the teenagers I knew in the 60s and 70s would have been looking at porn and movies during the convention if it existed back then. lol.

(Way back when during boring talks I was forced to simply stare in the distance or find a juicy or strange chapter in the bible with sex, murder or war in it.)

My question to more current Ex JWs: Do kids even listen today to talks with I-Pads and the entire worldwide web in their hot little hands?????

Even as a child that was considered "hyperactive", or what's today labeled as ADHD, l had to learn to kind of "space out" and go into a boredom induced trance so as to not get spanked and/or have to listen to the drivel from the stage. Even drawing too much would get you pinched, spanked, etc.

The teens today have ZERO idea just how good they actually have it. District Conventions were like 3-4 days long in the early 80's when I was a child, and I was gobsmacked to hear about those week-long 12-hour days of indoctrination the "Old Wanzzzz" had to endure in the 1950's at the Polo Grounds, etc. Who in their right minds would subject themselves, much less their CHILDREN to such a brainwashing? Then I read about how they'd go around to people in the 5 boroughs (NYC) asking/begging for a place to stay, or even just "tenting" for the week outside the Polo Grounds. Fuggin' WILD to me. That is some crazy-ass shit! It was torture enough for me having to sit in the hot baking July sun in the old Veteran's Stadium in Philadelphia instead of being at the beach like a normal kid. I couldn't image being born a few decades prior.

So yeah.....the JW kids today? Got it GOOD......life on easy street. Even with that, they can't escape fast enough. WatchTower is hemorrhaging the youth.

Home schooled and at 19 seems to be wandering aimlessly in life. Time to get her GED and decide a course in life. A good start would be going to a Community College doing general studies that could be applied to future pursuits.

Sadly, her parents likely just want her to "hang on" since Armageddon will take place SO VERY VERY SOON.

I hear dreadful experiences of conventions in the 1950s of 5 plus days conventions.

Imagine its 95degrees in the shade sitting there on bleachers. Having to camp out in crowded campgrounds with no a/c,, mosquitos,, flies & outhouses.

I remember growing up in the 1980s of the convention starting on Thursday afternoon & lasting all weekend in some arena all day on plastic moulded seats. No a/c & crowded concourses.

    WING COMMANDER & BETH SARIM;

As somebody not raised a Witness I cannot imagine those long District Conventions of long ago! The three-day ones were long enough.. My weekend was wasted and I got NOTHING done and went to work Monday exhausted.

As Beth Sarim mentioned in another post, people are too busy making a living these days and taking care of households… This shows how out-of-touch with reality the religion is about everyday life and what people have to do in order to live.

The people running the religion are cloistered and some have never paid a bill in their lives. They are clueless about everything. Maybe in the 1950s life was simpler for many but not all. Today? ..The religion can forget it if they imagine anybody has time to spend several days at a stadium listening to religious talks.. And then telling poor dopes they should be prepared to get fired from their jobs if they can’t get time off. In other words giving their bosses an ultimatum.. Get Real.

But, then again, they are the ones still telling gullible JWs not to get decent jobs so they can eat and not be destitute in later life… I can’t even feel sorry for people stupid enough to listen to them.

    Yeah.

The GB is just out of touch with reality.

The other day on SixSreens a guest was outlining how some GB members have not worked or had to earn a living in 3 or more decades.

Especially the older long time GB members.

You hear these super irritating WT studies and talks about forgoing work & education to serve,,,,, them!!!!

To be fair, this whole "Threaten to quit your job if your boss doesn't give you time off for the Assemblies, cause Jah will provide a new job for you" line, is NOT a new phenomenon in JW-Land. I heard that shit from the cradle on up! (born 1979) My mother was an educated RN (obtained before converting in late 70's) and she would scoff at that stupid bullshit every time it was spouted out of some clueless dumbass janitor from the stage. Oh sure! I'll just quit my well-paying job because I can't get off to go listen to the same drivel I hear day-in, day-out during the regular meetings. Jehovah will magically make another RN position open up for me. lol! Get real! And today? Forgetaboutit! Yes, the WT leadership are 100% clueless and cloistered.

Example / Case in Point: That one video last year or so of this one middle-aged couple. We see them discussing their finances, planning, etc. They are obviously wealthy by their well furnished OUTDOOR grand patio, and apparently have so much $$$ they can afford to "downsize" to serve this greedy-ass Corporation full-time. Que seal clapping in auditorium: (((( CLAP-CLAP-CLAP ))) That is NOT the norm in JW-Land. Oh sure, for the wealthy trade business owners it is, but not for 99% of the rank-n-file JW membership. They are hand-to-mouth barely surviving. And that's mainly because an education was denied to them (AKA: "discouraged").

Man, f**k this cult. It's toxic in the extreme. Only a complete moron with no internet access would EVER be naive enough to join the JW's Mormons, or Scientology.

DoC: Home schooled and at 19 seems to be wandering aimlessly in life.

That is a predictable result for someone raised as a JW, at least if they or their parents are all-in. I lucked into a career in IT because things fell into place and it did not feel as if I was going off-plan by doing it. Otherwise, I'd be in my mid-50s, stuck in some dead-end job as a mail clerk and wondering if I would ever be able to retire.

And I can remember the examples given at conventions, where they would talk about a brother/sister who preferred to lose a job rather than miss a day of the convention. In those examples, they always ended up in a much better situation, proof that Jehovah had rained blessings upon them for their devotion. The message was clear: if you have to make sacrifices for your faith, it will be paid back in multiples. And if your devotion left you without a job and few prospects? Don't expect help from the organization.

    WING COMMANDER:

I know how your mom felt and I also scoffed at the unbelievable bullshit I heard them say. And it went in one ear and out the other.

Remember, I saw all the older people in the hall collecting their pensions because they had been in the workforce.. Meanwhile, I was treated like an outcast for being in the workforce. But, I’m retired and can Thank God every day I never listened to these hypocrites (it’s almost as if they were trying to kill me with their pushing poverty).

The JW religion is also dishonest in their portrayals in the videos as you pointed out. They either show a couple obviously wealthy; or in others a guy with a house in a decent suburban area that he would have to be making over six figures to afford and maintain, not to mention a wife that probably helps out too.

As for anyone especially today in 2024, who believes they can get themselves fired from a good job and that another one is going to be dropped in their lap - words can’t describe the stupidity of this person. They’d never get an ounce of pity from me. Hopefully any gullible person who did this in the past learned from their error. This is not the ‘80s with a healthy economy. Quite the opposite and I don’t think we’ll see that again.

Nah, when the last of the Boomers mostly women are gone with their generosity (courtesy of some deceased husband who worked 40 years) it’s pretty much over for this religion - and good riddance when that finally happens!
