Why I like the Mormons and why they are so much nicer then the JWs.

I never really knew any until recently. As a Witness we all thought they were weird. But the two faiths are a lot alike, except the Mormons are really so much nicer than the JWs!

My fiancée was raised Mormon. She stopped attending 20 years ago.

Here is why I think they are nicer then the Johos.

    1. Mormons go door to door. So do the JWs. The difference is they only have to do it for two years. The witnesses their whole lives.

    2. Mormons believe that god is coming back to rule in peace. The JWs believe god is coming to rule in peace too but he after he kills off 95% of the Earths population.

    3. If you leave the Mormons (like my fiancée did many years ago) no big deal. They will still talk to you, still love you. She is very close with all her family. No Judgment! We moved her out of her house a year ago and they sent two brothers to help. They have given her tons of food for her and her three sons, over the years. She even knows nonmembers who have gotten food and support! Well, you know how the witnesses will treat you. Nothing even close!

    4. Mormons love their families no matter what, with no judgment. JWs love their families as long as they are in good standing. Even then the will be judging you every minute!

So if the scriptures are true that "by their love you will recognize them" then who knows, the witnesses might be in for a big surprise one day.

I also have a lot of experience with Mormons and I don't think they are any better than JW's - Mormons are just better at hiding it.

#3 and 4 aren't always true. They're not as bad about shining family as JWs are, but it does happen. They're maybe not quite as bad as JWs but they're still a harmful cult.

My experience with Mormons are as bad as with JW. I experienced far more open antisemitism from them than I have ever seen among JWs. And JWs are fairly antisemitic.

Mormons are taught they will be gods one day. My experience is that they aren't waiting till they die. They are the most pompous and elitist self righteous bunch of bastards I have ever dealt with. Witnesses are a close second.

I live 100 feet from a tabernacle and 75% of my neighbors are members of the CoLDS. Some of them are really nice and some are not. It is exactly the same ratio I found in congregations of JWs. What I can assure you is that the second you engage any of them in a deep discussion about the failings of their theology, they all turn into ogres. And they love the word "apostate" too and misuse it like their brethren in the kingdom halls.

Mormons beliefs are more fanciful. JWs beliefs are more dangerous. If scientology was jw more wild younger brother then the Mormon church would be be it's bigger, friendly older brother.

If doctrine didn't bother me. I had choice between the 2. I was basing my religious choice on life style. Then it would probably be the Mormon church.

I have to agree with JustFine. I have worked for an LDS bishop and I have worked with members of his family and members of his congregation. All were honest and dependable guys.

I do think the LDS has a much better view of the family and higher education than the WTB&TS will ever have.

A funny story - I was in upper NYS for a few weeks and one of my LDS co-workers was also there for a different purpose. Our weekends were full of "nothing-to-do," so I made a proposal: we would drive over to Hill Cumorah in Manchester, New York IF he would come to the midnight showing of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" with me when we got back from Hill Cumorah. He agreed. I saw Hill Cumorah through the eyes of a sociologist, and I got to enjoy seeing my friend deal with the "risque" elements of TRHPS and the audience participation therein. He survived undamaged, though I am sure he doubted he would. We remained friends until our jobs took us in different directions.

Anyone who wants some insight into the LDS would benefit by reading "Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith" by Jon Krakauer (2004) and watch the video "THE LOST BOOK OF ABRAHAM - investigating a remarkable Mormon claim" for FREE at http://www.bookofabraham.info/.

Oh dear! I think you need to go talk to some more former Mormons to get a broader perspective. From what I have observed from both of those religions, they are VERY much alike and there is no way in hell that either of them have the chosen people ... if there were such a thing.
