New Upcoming Changes - No More Publisher Record Cards & Reporting Hours

I remain skeptical, but it is curious - over the past 3-4 years there has been an extraordinarily strong emphasis on "cart witnessing" and less and less on "door to door" work.

If - If - IF - this "no longer reporting hours" will eventually be true, I could see an end to door to door ministry and an even more visible presence in "cart witnessing", along with mandatory assignments for elders, MS, & wives of same every month. Skip your mandatory cart witnessing turn too often or for no good reason, lose your privileges.

Actually there really is no good reason to preach. To be honest I don't think they care if people preach anymore. What is preaching doing for them? Nothing really. On the contrary.

Any new JWs are kids of existing JDUBS. Money is coming in via congregation collections and donations. You can make the case that preaching is actually costing them money (literatrash, carts, etc).

So the benefits of stopping preaching:

Money saved on less literatrash and carts, and paper reports

No worries about falling publisher numbers

Less exposure to apostates on the streets

Sense that the big A is closer

@sir82 Don't forget about how they nitpick people to death over cart witnessing. I'm talking about that special form they have that determines whether or not you qualify for this sacred privilege. I don't understand how someone can qualify for door-to-door preaching, but somehow that same person isn't worthy of sitting next to a cart. If they start focusing more on the carts, they'll have to stop being so strict about it.

    Hmmm...thinking more on this....

At elders meetings where new appointments are considered, maybe they could morph from "what are his hours" to "how well does he handle his cart assignments"...."how does his wife handle her cart assignments"...."are they too passive, spend too much time on their phone, alert to start conversations"....etc.

[Door to door] + [stop reporting of time] I can't see happening.

[Door to door entirely replaced by cart witnessing] + [stop reporting of time] I can imagine.

    Still skeptical though.

'Sense the big A is closer'. That is right. The Borg will no doubt utilize that and manipulate the followers to believe that it is a fulfillment of prophecy.

    ''Still skeptical though''...

and yes I agree. What has kept the followers busy over decades and decades non other than knocking on doors or some sort of preaching work? Also, should the Borg declare that ''preaching work is now fulfilled''....and...then...nothing happens? How would the Borg explain it's way out of that one? These 2 reasons why I'm skeptical they could never ditch the preaching work. The preaching work is none other than an effective tool to keep the dubbies occupied in their opinions believing they are doing the Lord's work.

Sorry, not buying it...the WT has kept the "ministry" at the forefront all its damn life and to remove the one thing that keeps people in check, recording hours, will demotivate dubs.

You got a brother and sister, young and married with no kids...they do 8 hours a month each to be seen to be "in the truth".

If they do not record hours anymore they will be motivated to do less because the only reason they do 8 hours a month is to be seen and record hours and send them to their Book Overlord.

NOT recording hours will undoubtedly means less hours will be done by dubs...and the WT will not have that.

If they required all jw's to have an id number or something on that sort should they become a web only religion wouldn't some worry that it was the mark of the beast?

I remember years ago some zealous (non jw) person who felt that social security numbers were the mark of the beast and the end was near. Would a diehard or older jw worry about this or just same old, the gb speak for jah, blah, blah.....

The GB are no doubt aware, at least to some extent, of the downsides to stopping counting time. And in ordinary circumstances they may avoid making the decision to stop recording time. Yet they may simply be facing a scenario where it seems to them that the disadvantages of collecting time now outweigh the advantages.

They may be worried that data protection laws will harm them in future if they continue to collect this information. Plus they obviously realise that trends indicate they are entering a period of decline, and they see no advantage to continuing to collect and publish this data in these circumstances.

Plus there is a more basic point, that the Watchtower has often justified reporting time and placements on the basis that this information allows the organisation to plan their publishing activity efficiently. (I don’t have a specific reference for this, but I’m sure I’ve read and heard this justification multiple times) As they move away from print media altogether they may simply be facing up to the logic of their traditional rationale for reporting preaching and concluding that it is no longer necessary.

Having said all this, I think this change has the potential to have a huge impact on the organisation far beyond what the GB may anticipate. It could deflate morale and accelerate the ongoing collapse of the organisation.

If it is true then FS activity will plummet.

The only reason I can think of would be to reduce legal exposure. They want to create a scenario where they are not liable for the activities of congregations, elders and individual publishers. Maybe this is a step in that direction.

European data protection laws might also be a factor.
