I know a jw counselor that makes the jws he counsels sign a paper that if they were reveal they sinned he would report to the elders.

I don’t think that is even legal. The guy is a pompous asshole anyway. His kids can’t even stand him.

Many of my mental disorders are from being raised in this cult. I'm better now with some of them but has token years of help to deal with a host of problems.

You must have a mental disorder to be a JW.

It is vital to ask any counselor you intend to go to if they are experienced with cults. If they are not they are likely to see the wt as just another religion.

I found this to be true. I was seeing a counselor for other issues -- not anything specifically pertaining to JWism, but the subject of religiosity/spirituality came up and I was frank about the JW issues. The counselor had no idea they practiced shunning, etc. He simply had always viewed them as just another protestant fringe religion without having any understanding of the psychological damage that can be inflicted by the Cult and its members.

Hoser, I remember years ago of a “ therapist “ who said the same thing. He had a pretty big “practice “ and wasn’t an elder but was treated as one by the congregation. Personally I think he was a con artist! Who in their right mind would sign a statement saying whatever you tell a therapist is not protected speech? Only a JW would consider it.🙄

What's the point of counseling if you can't reveal quote unquote sins to the counselor? That's crazy, I agree with you minimus.

I learned early on to never go to a JW for anything. You wont have your questions answered and it will be the talk of the rumor mill.

I know one who is cracking under stress. My opinion is too much expectation, work load, poor marriage, and aging.

My solution would be hysteria treatment. I could provide it🙄 it actually would add to it. She does not recognize that a lot of stress comes from being a dub.

Hysteria treatment was common 100 years ago wasn’t it?

'Many also go into the field after leaving and going to college in part to heal themselves.'

Many non JW's go into the mental health field and to college in part to heal themselves.
