Jesus and his followers did not write anything down or if they did........ nothing survived.

So we are left with an oral tradition in the years that followed. Which means those oral stories about Jesus followed the Roman Trade Routes and needed to be translated into many different languages. And adjusted to the life culture of different nationalities. That translation process would have meant scribes in each of those languages who were themselves enslaved or freemen in the employment of rich and powerful persons.

So maybe Jesus did say something about slavery. It would certainly be in keeping with his humanitarian side.

It occurs to me that the rich owner of a slave plantation, factory, mill or earthworks might have 'suggested' to his scribe that anything Jesus said in the oral translation that was negative about Slavery and anything he said in favor of women's rights should not be added to the account.

Slavery in Christian-majority countries ended a long time ago. The British ended the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade at the beginning of the 1800s.

Interesting that the Nations of Christendom (false religion) had higher moral standards concerning the (im)morality of owning slaves than does the Bible.

The problem with your arguments is that slavery has been in exisistence for thousands of years takeing various forms if you have any debt you are in a form if slavery. Now that said in isreal slavery was regulated and mostly voluntary. But im refering to african slavery in the u.s. that was cruel and inhumane and forced the slave owners beat maimed and ripped children from patents. By comparison w.t. does the same emotionally.

    Exodus 21:20-21

20 “Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, 21 but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property

The Bible is a book against humanity.

    EverApostate,

Actually the incredible thing about those verses is the idea that a slave owner could be punished. For the time and age, that idea is utterly insane. This was not written yesterday. I am pretty sure some slaveowners back then would be offended and considering these verses very offending to their humanity. Totally outdated to day obviously. I will leave it up to you to consider, if we even today have equal rights for all humanity, just to put things in perspective

JoenB75 , Do you consider the new Testament as the Word of god and that the Old testament can be ignored. Your comments make me think so.

    Hi Everapostate,

I believe the new testament was written for Christians in general and to a specific original audience. Old testament is old history. All of it should be read with context, litterary style and original audience in mind. I think the idea of two classes of believers, one heavenly, one earthly, made JWs look too much to the old testament and imo confuse the two testaments.
