Annoying double standard...

I've watched a little bit of MTV lately and it's been absolutely bugging the crap out of me as I watch these inane music videos: Men can be physically unattractive but still talented musically and get recognition, not the same for women! They have to be perfect looking in every way on top of being able to at least carry a tune. I'm sick of watching Beyonce writhe and Christina strut around half naked. C'mon they both have great voices! It's not as if I'm insecure either. I know I'm reasonably cute and I have a decent personality so it's not that I'm jealous (okay maybe just a tiny bit) but, I'm sick of watching talented women let themselves be pimped out by their record companies!

Is there a point to this post? Not really, I'm just frustrated and needed to vent. Grrrrrr!

I agree with you on the whole double standard stuff. Guys can be ugly as hell and it doesn't affect their sales. It's rare that a female who isn't stunning can make it in the biz.

But you are absolutely correct.... there are a lot of ugly male singers. Not so with women singers. Then again I think most women are attractive.

SP, I don't have a problem with women owning their sexuality and wearing whatever they want. I love the fact that I can do that! Not that I ever wear anything remotely provocative cause I'm just too damn shy (chalk some of this up to being a chubby teen) but, if I wanted to go out on in a tube top....I can! I just wish we could see women projecting themselves a bit more intellectually in the media. Even if you watch the news you'll see some older dude and a young hot chick behind the anchor desk...

I'm just frustrated is all!

Me and music? I know how to listen to it, but that's all.

I never watch music videos. Just no interest in them I guess.

Having the hot chicks on tv? Maybe they figure it's the only way to hold our attention.

Well yes it is totally unfair the BIG COMPANIES MAKES THE RULES : But my son's favorite woman signer is ELIOTT MISSY (fat or not) and he don't give a damn about the all range of litlle "half-naked women", he even told me the other day that he have nothing to do with that (not appealing) he rather watch true porn. But when Eliott is on the screen HERE HE IS !!! I know Elliot is not uggly but she is not special physically in any way.

I worked for MTV in Aus... and rage. They make those vids cos the target audience buys the music. Target audience is 13 to 18 y/o girls. YOu can't blame us dirty old men for that. Mind you, when the Spice Girls moofie first came out. The audience was 13 y/o girls.......and their dads!
