Is There Some Sort of Campaign Going on?

In the past year I've seen them out d2d at least twice in different neighborhoods, and came home to a convention invite on my porch a few weeks ago. I also see them in parks and downtown with their carts, probably 4-5 times in the past year---for what that personal testimony's worth.

But the most recent leaked info from Atlantis has the GB dictators stating they want to go back to the traditional d2d methods most of us were used to when we were in. Evidently, they finally figured out that the lack of "Bible studies" they have been suffering from stems from them having nearly abandoned that traditional work of getting into conversations with people, and instead just stressing going to their website. The latter has just hasn't panned out for conversions.

    DUUUHHHHHHHHHH.

careful, paradoxically, if they hadn't stopped the door to door work during Covid, they might have been able to have more conversations with people who were stuck at home and bored 🥱.

Does D2D result in conversions any more? Even twenty years ago it was not looking like a very effective use of time.

I have wondered in the past if ever I called at the home of a former witness who chickened out and didn't reveal themselves. Your experience is probably one of many fascinating ones.

Fortunately, I've never been one*. I chickened 🐓🐔 out because I wasn't in the mood for a fight.

As I said above, I thought later that I should have engaged, provided that they promise** not to run away. That's my biggest peeve: after two minutes, and the conversation starts to get interesting, they excuse themselves and leave!

    * When they came earlier this year a lady said I seemed quite knowledgeable about JWs. I told her I've known a few in my time, but I'm not what she would call an apostate***. I'm probably still seen as an opposer, though. Seemingly not enough to have them avoiding my door, though! 😕

** Even if they promised, they might still leave abruptly; apparently they're allowed to lie! 🤥 😱

*** Probably well informed enough that they could conclude that I'm in contact with "apostates", which makes me bad association anyway. Or, of course, I could be lying; I don't imagine that they have a high opinion of outsiders.

    Wow!

Saw two older ladies on the ministry today.

Recognised them first from that slooooow ministry walk..

Hmmmm..if it's a 'life saving work, why don't they walk quicker between each house???

    notformer,

Funny observation on the preaching during Covid. I guess the safety of members getting ill trumped possible in-person contact in the ministry.

In answer to your "Does D2D result in conversions any more? Even twenty years ago it was not looking like a very effective use of time," that's a fascinating question. Traditionally one factor has been the socio-economic area where the preaching takes place. A lower-class area has had a much better rate of "Bible studies"/conversions than a middle- or upper-class neighborhood. But even in those poorer areas, conversions has slowed greatly or even died out since the GB dictators decided to quash the emphasis on getting into conversations, and just tell the "faithful" to direct people to the WTS website. Now it is slowly dawning the GBers that it's time to go back to imitating Jesus and the first Christians in personally speaking to people, acting in a human-to-human manner.

    Again, DUUUHHHHH.

How about a new conversation? Do you think we are nuts?

Traditional reigion is falling from the norm anyway. Replaced by climate extremism, political saviors (or demons) hedonism......

Heard about a bro getting heat stroke yesterday

To their completely worn out opening question:

"Do you think the world is getting better or worse?"

    I would have responded:

"Well things aren't perfect, but the world is way better than it was 100 years ago. There's a lot more access to food, health care is better, we have internet, 401k savings are better than ever, unemployment worldwide is a lot lower. So, YES, the world IS much better."

In the 8 years I've been out I've only had a JW call at my door once. And even then they were only trying to hand me a leaflet and leave without even telling me who they were.

You can bet I kept them there for a good 30mins.

    NOT FORMER:

There has been a campaign of sorts going on in the recent months.

The religion has ‘decreed’ people can invite disfellowshipped persons to a meeting or ask them if they ‘want to come back’. There have been many reports of people who have been out for ages getting phone calls, texts, visits or mail either by JW relatives, elders or old friends just looking them up now because they have ‘permission’.🙄
