I noticed that most financial sites like banks have an automatic log out after some time of inactivity.
Could a similar thing work here perhaps?
If someone has logged on, but not used the site for say 20 minutes, could they be logged out and have to reenter the passwords?
That would prevent someone accidentally leaving their log-ins and username visible if they leave the computer accidentally open....and save some potential issues for those fading...
It'd also be a bloody nuisance. I don't think I've logged out in years.

I sympathize with faders but what you call "accidentally" I call "carelessly." My suggestions:
Financial institutions log you out automatically because it cuts down on fraud/theft claims which saves them money. They don't care about your security.
Please NO automatic log out. Those who need to be wary will know how to log out scrupulously .
If this is even a possibility, I'd like to have my say. Thanks.

The worst I have done is not go on an "incognito" page and then when my wife types the "j" of "jw. org," it could suggest "jehovahs-witness. com" but I wish she would open that page.

I'm not a fan of auto-sign-out although of course it makes sense for things like banking sites to protect people from themselves.
The goal, when I get a solid chunk of time, is to enable oauth for sign-in. That means you will no longer need to have specific credentials to this site, you'll just use whatever other account you want to use (facebook, google etc...) which pushes all the "do I want to stay signed in" choices to them as well as all the account protections that they provide.
BTW: You'll just authenticate yourself to this site via 3rd party providers to avoid having to maintain another email / password combination, it won't expose to anyone else what your facebook identity is.
As other have said, use an incognito "porn-mode" window to avoid leaving a trail. With a normal window, leaving the 'remember me' checkbox clear when signing in should clear the session when you close the window.
