Perhaps it is important -- and then again, maybe it's not -- that Jesus' words be considered in a more spiritual way than words spoken by most others. "Spiritual", as I see it, is a word referring to our deeper truth, deeper than the phenomenal. So, perhaps Jesus was speaking of a persistence in regard to wanting to know Truth: spiritual-truth, our ultimate truth, when this-physical-story-is-gone-what-is-there-then kind of truth, as compared to wanting to improve our personal or carnal identities -- as in relationships, health, money, status, etc. I feel that the saying you mentioned, JH, is a very important one that should not be taken lightly. Perhaps it is pointing to the fact that if we keep on knocking at the cost of all else, if we desire to know Truth at the cost of life itself, we will come to know; and it will be a diamond that outshines all else. Another key saying attributed to Jesus that goes with this one is :"The Kingdom (read Truth) is within". So, there is the direction in which to seek; in which to "knock". A door on which to "keep on knocking". JamesT

I suppose survival from the JWs had a lot to do with my keeping a positive mental attitude and constantly telling myself I would get through this and be ok. It worked
