My landlord came into my apartment when I was not around to fix the furnace...I did not even know he was going to come in. Anyway since I have have a cold, I could not smell that my guinea pigs needed to be cleaned, their cage looked fine. Anyway, he got all pissed and said by Friday it is either me (and Mike) or the guinea pigs. *sigh*
Well maybe no one would understand the fondness I have for my guinea pigs. I love them dearly. I have had the oldest one for 4 years now and I am quite attached to them all. I always take care of them except this one time. I was going to move out anyway into a bigger place that allowed dogs (I want a border collie) because we have more $$$ coming in and want an office and an extra room and a spacious place. Well now we are sort of forced to look elsewhere and fast. The problem is, I am waiting for my school loan to come in, because only then can I afford the initial move (security deposit, 1st month, etc, almost $2000). Oh crap. This week sucks. My landlord sucks. Also, I am without heat and it is COLD in my place. I have been without heat for a while, but only in the last two weeks has it been cold out! (Its Maine, USA)

Aren't they supposed to give 24 hours notice before entering your apartment? You could turn the tables if they entered without notifying you.

Well in most states it takes longer than 4 days to evict and it takes more than just the word from the landlord. I have no idea what landlord/tenant laws are like in Maine. Iwould think that a writen notice of eviction has to be served. There is also a time period for appeals including a court case if you appeal. Also in many states if you send the landlord a notice of no heat then they can come in with only a knock on the door to do the repairs.
Now on that "crap crap crap" was it confined to their cage or was it all over the floor? If just in the cage then ground for eviction probably would be dismissed because "smell isn't enough" to evict as long as neighbors don't smell it.

Isn't your landlord negligent for not repairing the heat sooner? Last Winter our furnace went out 4 times and we finally told our landlord we weren't paying the rent until he fixed it correctly. I think they also have to give you notice that they will be coming into your apartment like Nos said. At the very least he should give you more time to figure out what to do! I've had alot of landlords and some of them have been very unreasonable! Like the one who wanted to evict me for paying my rent 3 days late after paying it on time and early for a year. Jerk! Look at your lease and into tenants rights in your area...

In the lease, it states he can come whenever her wants...I didn't think that was right, but I didn't ask when we were moving in because at that time, I was so desparate for a place and getting away from an old boyfriend.
We also have not payed rent for this month because we had no heat, but now the landlord expects it friday, and Mike and I both agreed that if we are moving out, we will not pay the rent for this month and the landlord can suck our collective balls.
And no, stacy, no crap anywhere but in the cage, it was still kind of clean, just had a slight smell to it that is normally taken care of by a little spot-cleaning of the cage, nothing big.
I am actually not too worried as long as my loan comes in within 2 weeks, then I will have tons of $$$ to work with and just throw at a prospective land lord who just won't be able to turn down all the money up front.
If that doesn't happen, well then I will be panicking. Right now, I am just very nervous and stressed about the whole thing but not at the panick stage just yet...
I, being the addicted-to-this-board person that I am, will keep you updated. :) This is a good place for support. Hugs all around! -

dude, go for it. you don't have to put up with his crap. that's why I left the homeless shelter. but others are not as lucky as I am. I had friends to stay with, and I should have done that in the first place. but enough about me. the point is not to take anyone's crap.

Lease smease, ive lived as an apartment manager my whole life, and I can tell you right now, he needs your written consent within 24 hours of entering your home, no matter what the lease says. I can get you the proof if you want it.
