we, in our own locality, have begun to take in a small number of Syrian refugees from refugee camps in Lebanon and Jordan. thought I'd share the good news. I don't know what they will make of our calamities with flooding in Cumbria though - and more flooding expected.

re climate change - surely there must be a way to pipe water to Syria and Iraq like they pipe oil to others once civil war has settled? the number of people who have died is astronomical - they could have formed a human chain from the glaciers to Syria and Iraq to convey water

bravo for Canada to bring across a selected few, as sponsored immigrants, even if the local small businesses might not be enchanted about the subsidized competition. Laika, Spoletta - it's really not complicated. You can be both welcoming to genuine refugees AND against jihadist masquerading as migrants ... at the same time!

We should be helping and welcoming those most in need. That isn't the people who then turn round and attack us. I'm particularly please for example that Canada is making special effort to help Yazidi women who have been mistreated. There are plenty of people who can be helped before we start looking at the hoards of fighting-age young men. We need to do a much better job of vetting people than some European countries have.

And welcoming people doesn't mean they then get to enforce their ways, especially if they are ultimately the source of the nightmare they are escaping from.
