Only if your first priority is the monetary value of 'things'. I'd choose the UK over the US every single time.

Now Now Nicolaou, play nice!
Anyway their gallons are smaller - 3.87L to our 4.54L.
The announcement to eliminate the book study was made in 2008. At the time, gas prices were a convenient excuse since gas was $4/Gal./US.
Of course that was bullshit, since prices quickly receded to about $2/Gal./US by the time the book study was actually discontinued.
I have stated consistently that the elimination of the book study was a turning point for the organization, and was done for one reason and one reason only, money. Less meetings per week = less need for KHs and allows for their sale and subsequent cash flow upstream. It is that simple.

7 years ago eh? Time flies. To this day nobody has come up with a satisfactory reason as to why the group study was cancelled. Yes there were sometimes problems finding the right location but they were met ok. It has resulted in the loss of community spirit and togetherness among them. They do not know each other so well and if you move congs. then it is harder to fit in.
It brought in the much vaunted "Family Worship Night". Has that benefitted? The answer must depend on the skill and enthusiasm of the family head. A lot must be dullsville or non existant.
I know several who still talk fondly of the old group night (and tea & cakes afterward)
It was nu-lite from god and an "adjustment" in understanding of the bible command to gather together.
To paraphrase Hebrews 10:25 , "not forsaking our meeting together, as some have the custom, but encouraging one another, and all the less so as you see the day drawing near."
just saying!

The letter as stated that they did not want to cause further burden to the brothers and sisters.
BURDEN? I remember my jaw dropping on that one. We were always taught that the Book study was one of the most important meetings and now it's a Burden? WT are great spin doctors!
Dare I say that the bookstudy was the most tolerable of all the meetings......only because we would have "goodie night" after......and man, we went all out with that!
Like Stuck said, we always were told to stick to your study group because when "times got tougher" these small groups would be our lifeline. So now what?? I notice a lot less commaraderie in the hall now too.

Aha! Does that difference hold true for tons and tonnes? It seems adding a few extra consenants makes things bigger/heavier etc gallon & gallonnes???!! 'Gas'has always been cheaper in the US - is it cos the UK is so small you can walk everywhere if you had to?
Getting back to the OP someone posted recently a letter & other info basically showing the hypocrasy of the ORG that was just worried about being liable when kids where victimized by paedophiles in these private homes they where 'ordered'into. I am guessing other safety issues, fire exits etc would come into play from a legal standpoint.
Gas prices??What BS, who the hell fell for that...oh er, that would be me.😕
Stagnation had something to do with it. The book study, as full of rubbish as it was, at least provided some variance. People could comment in small groups, allowing too many comments that diverged from the paragraph and the stock answer. This also fed into "goodie night", where book studies would end with pizza and snacks on certain nights. To ensure as much stagnation, that had to go.
Now, it is Family Waste the Evening Night. They are supposed to study the washtowel publications, practice the new kingdumb maladies, and enact dramas of the washtowel doctrine during this night. Since they are supposed to use official washtowel sources, it makes commenting beyond the limits of the Establishment close to impossible. No goodie nights, either--and all the more so now that children's ice cream money needs to go into the Worldwide Damnation Fund.
I think I will stick with putting up Christmas lights in lieu of Family Waste the Evening Night. And spend the time studying the Exposing Christianity site--at least that has a parent site that allows me to read astrology as well.
