There's depersonalization and the impersonal. This probably wouldn't mean a lot to you right now, but it's good to note that the impersonal is the power of awareness that would allow you to observe the experience without getting caught up in it. After all, the awareness itself doesn't have a personality does it? So it is just not personal. The depersonalization and disassociation would be a kind of avoidance, and while it may apparently free you from the personality and the body for a while, it is ultimately not really freeing. The impersonal perspective is both free from and to have personal experiences, but it is called impersonal because ultimately it is not personal in nature - it's that clear awareness.
But I mention this because while it may be prudent to reinforce a personality structure for stability in the short run, (relatively speaking) if we're talking about this kind of freedom that works both ways, you wouldn't want to take it too seriously, ultimately. In general taking that structure too seriously is what causes the suffering, in this case it just happens to be the JW structure and there's a movement away from that through this kind of disassociation. You can come up with a structure that's relatively more free, but the point is ultimately freedom is not found in the structures.
