Ive never seen any JW charity for the community they live in, maybe just the opposite, they don't mind going to local food banks and loading up from Satan,s organization and giving it to their own members. It happens every week here when locals line up with their cars to pick up hand outs, you will see several witness cars helping themselves.

They certainly don't mind accepting charity, even from religious organisations. In fact, the elders even once directed me to Presbyterian Social Services for assistance. Cheeky buggers!

People dont need hospitals, blankets, shelter, food. They need watchtowers.
I have heard it likened to giving jehovahs due to the world.

Or how about the "free" COVID test kits that were sent out by the government, and then an elder had this to say, " It is nice to know that the brothers are always watching out for us."
Either those brothers thought all JW's were so stupid they could not figure out how to follow a secular link for mo' free stuff, or they were once again taking credit for someone else work.

I have been in 7 congregations in my 32 years as an active JW in 3 States of Australia and I have never seen or heard from the Society as they used to be called, any assistance monetary or otherwise from the JW religion to any needy person ,widow or orphans that needed help or assistance .
The onus was always put back on the individual members of the congregations to provide any assistance needed.
Recently, when many old time workers / members were laid off ,they were just sent back to neighboring congregations who were to provide for their needs, with no assistance from the GB/JW religion.

Indeed, the message was always that giving to charities is like giving to wordly organisations and that is not what a JW should do.
But of course, how happy is a JW to receive the benefits from all those charities that he/she is not allowed to support.
My wife is still "in" but actually volunteered to collect donations for the brain research society for the first time in her life. I am proud of her.

SMIDDY3:
Yes, the JW religion gives nothing to anybody. This is in sharp contrast to the churches of Christendom who have all sorts of programs to help people.
What’s particularly shameful is these laid-off JW workers were working for the religion, not anybody else!..The idea they are sent back to home congregations with the assumption that people THERE are going provide for their needs is outrageous.
Does anyone have the audacity to imagine they are going to corner ‘responsible’ people criticized for having decent jobs???
I am so Glad I am long gone from this hypocritical religion!!…I have no interest or pity for pioneers who didn’t plan for their own future!..Also, the ones kicked out of bethel are going to need brothers with businesses to give them jobs.
Too many of these bethelites made stupid or derogatory remarks about people with jobs. As far as I’m concerned, they richly deserve to know what it’s like to work for a living like the rest of the world they looked down on when at their ivory tower at bethel.

I appreciate your responses and they backed up the impression I had. I didn’t remember the direct statements in the literature.
What outright selfishness and greed the governing body displays.
My reason for asking was that I had been inquiring about volunteering at a local chapter of an international charity.
When I did some research online I found that a couple from the last congregation I attended are sponsors and one of them is on the board of directors.
Great that they aren’t following the “rules.” 🙂 I thought it was unusual that they are involved especially to that extent. I would probably cross paths with them although I don’t know how often. Here’s why this matters to me and maybe why I felt the need to express it here.
I wasn’t able to leave the organization with a shred of dignity, when I disassociated there were several very unpleasant situations surrounding it because of some of the elders who were way out of line. Including one who tried to force himself into my home, which was terrifying in itself.
Even the neighbors heard the whole situation, so that was embarrassing as well. They were very supportive and said they’d help if anything further occurred.
One of the elders who was directly involved is a close relative to this couple and no doubt they were aware of the situation.
I doubt they approve of what happened and are possibly embarrassed.
Seeing their pictures in the media brings that extremely difficult time period back to me as if it were yesterday, it’s keeping me awake and causing bad dreams.
I know this is my fault to let it upset me so much but it does. Yet, I don’t see any reason to force myself into the unpleasant situation of volunteering where there will be a constant reminder of the religion just to prove to myself that I can.
Covid restrictions have made volunteering opportunities limited, but I’ll keep looking. I know I’m far from alone in being triggered by the organization even years later and it does somehow help just to express my feelings here. Thank you for your input and support. 🌷✨🧡😎

What a horrible experience to go through, long gone. I pray that you will heal this bad memory, and can move on, and find a good charity. ((Hugs)). 👍🏻

Charity in the Org!?! That's a laugh! I remember our family went through a bad event and could not get any help from the congregation. But they sure need those donations $ .
