    Hi there Lyin,

Some good advice has been offered here. In addition to some of these suggestions you may want to try taking MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) in conjunction with vitamin C (sodium ascorbate powder is best). The MSM is a naturally occuring sulfur compound with antiinflammatory and circulation enhancing properties. It aids in cellular regeneration and has been quite effective in relieving/eliminating muscle pain and arthritic conditions. (It's also been helpful in treatment of headaches)

Are you currently taking any form of supplemental estrogen or oral contraceptives? Hormone fluctuation has been closely associated with migraine frequency and you may want to consider estrogen dominance as a possible cause. If you are supplementing you may want to consider a natural progesterone treatment as a safer and more effective alternative.......it's been known to eliminate migraines as well. Do you drink diet pop? Some people have an allergic reaction to aspartame that results in migraines.

This may sound funny.....but breathing into a paper bag for 20 minutes has been known to eliminate a migraine as they can be caused by hyperventilating. The rebreathing of carbon dioxide is effective in countering this .

    Just a few thoughts..................mac

Dede, my mom had whopper migraines when I was a teenager (no, it wasn't my fault!) and it turned out that she was hypoglycemic. Once she got on a strict diet for hypoglycemia she improved drastically and rarely had migraines after that. Hers would last for days and she'd end up throwing up from the pain and nausea and end up in the hospital with an IV. Since we lived in St. Croix, where liquor is real cheap, everyone on the island (it was a SMALL island) thought she was an alcoholic like so many others there. (I had a teacher who died of cirrhosis of the liver.)

You may want to get your blood sugar level tested. I hope you feel better!!!

LE, I had migraines all my life. What cured mine, ibuprofen, 800 mg, 3 of them. If still hurting 2 more 4 hours later (with food). Worked every time. Now I am on NSaids all the time so have not had a migraine for several years. The ibuprofen cure was given to me by my neurologist, best one in town. Everyone is different, but I have shared my pills (naughty, naughty) with several desparate migraine sufferers at work. My husband takes an 800 mg for his headaches. Everyone says it works like a charm :). My headaches are caused by swollen vascular pressure in the blood veins in my head. Ibuprofen is designed for helping with that.

I get chronic headaches and stiff aching tight muscles in my neck and body too. I have had a couple of migraines and my fair share of cluster headaches. I take Motrin (Ibruprofin). It works and NOTHING else does but I also have to see a chiropractor in order to extend the relief. The muscles in my neck get so tense that they knock my neck out of joint and my jaw hurts up to my eye and head...grrrr. I have had this problem since I was a teenager and the best advice I can give you is motrin and a chiropractor. Fibromyalgia runs in my family and for all I know, that is probably what I have too. Calcium helps my sisters because it is a natural muscle relaxant. I can't seem to remember to take mine. Beware of prescription muscle relaxants.....they make most people very "mean" the next day. You can see your dentist about a mouth guard to sleep with, so you won't clench your teeth at night if you do... It has gotten much better for me over the years. Stress is a killer. Make a mental note about red wine or other things that may bring on a headache for you. Also keep watch for a connection between the headaches and your monthly cycle. I tend to get them in a pattern. Take care and ((((((hugs)))))) Go easy. love, dj

Although someone already mentioned it, chiropractic care is one of the most effective and preventative methods I've ever seen/experienced to get rid of headaches. As you probably know, pain medication is only covering up the symptom--not actually relieving it. My boyfriend is a chiropractor, and one of his reasons for going into it was because his own father had horrible migraines, but once he went to a chiropractor they stopped.

I also work in my boyfriend's office from time to time, and have witnessed many people with various aches and pains get relief by a simple spinal readjustment. Think about it--when your car is out of alignment your tires wear out unevenly. Our bodies are very similar, and unfortunately with bad habits like sleeping on stomachs and lifting/bending/turning incorrectly we continually put stress on our spines. Once we get out of alignment, pressure is put on our nerves and causes pain (commonly like headaches & sciatica).

I personally tend to have back problems because of a large chest, and I also get some headaches and a lot of moodiness because I sleep on my stomach. This causes specific nerves to be compressed which in turn affects my moods and can cause pain--but as soon as I get adjusted I'm fine again. (I know I need to be doing either yoga or pilates to strengthen my spinal muscles--then I wouldn't need a chiro as much)

Anyway, I didn't mean to rant--I've just seen it action and wanted to share. I hope you get some relief from your pain soon!

    Love,

    Becky

I have the same problems and sometimes nothing seems to help it seems. I use a lot of the ideas already mentioned and have also found after a doctors suggestion that I have to watch my caffeine intake, to much gives me headaches and muscle pains. Hope you find some relief soon I know the pain can be awful.

BigTex, I'll have to try that next time I get a migraine. My Dr prescribed Flexeril for my back pain.

I swear by it Shari. I've tried everything else, and that's the only thing that will knock it out for me. Generally speaking it won't come back either.
