Still dont get the friggin birthdays

  I have read extensively about the origins of birthdays, and I still don't get it. But it's not what it means today.

  Even wedding veils were used to ward off the "evil eye". But it's not what it means today. And that's okay? Dont get it. Oh, and my birthday is coming up, but I'm still pimo, so it's not gonna get much recognition (obviously). I don't want to reveal my age or the date, because of my identity, but, hey feel free to wish me.

  The whole thing pisses me off, because they are considered idolatry. You're not idolizing one person. Alot of people are celebrating their bday, so you're basically idolizing everybody on the planet. Okay, that's kind of dumb.

  I'm sure there's non-dubs that dont even care to celebrate their bday. They probably dont want to be reminded about getting old. 😂

  Happy Birthday!

  I never understood why a jw can do anniversaries (the birth of their union) but not a birthday. My jw would say that 'we are not commanded to celebrate birthday's', well no, however you also are not commanded to celebrate your anniversary!

  Up until 1926, the WTS celebrated birthdays. Even had a book equivalent to the daily scripture comments and a list to record the dates of member birthdays.

  In their "Daily Manna" book, Bible Students kept a list of birthdays. But after they quit celebrating Christmasand when they realized that birthday celebrations were giving undue honor to creatures (one reason that early Christians never celebrated birthdays), the Bible Students quit this practice too

  Yes, I always felt that since birthdays were mentioned in the bible, but the mention only being incidental, meant that birthdays were common place, and incidentally, in these two instances, spanning hundreds of years, two twisted individuals used the occasion to murder. So what about all the other millions of birthdays (during that time period) not mentioned in the bible? And, what is a childs birthday, if not the ultimate celebration of the union of marriage?

  Like so many of the beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses, their explanation of their beliefs held in regards to celebrating birthdays crumbles quickly.

  1) They immediately admit there is no Biblical prohibition against it.

  2) They then draw a conclusion based on the only two birthday party stories in the Bible where a person was essentially murdered.

  3) They make the claim that celebrating a person's birthday is in fact theft of glory belonging to Jehovah.

  So, it's just an opinion with little evidence to support it. Just like so many other non-biblical self adopted prohibitions.

  Like with the prohibition of blood transfusions, they drew their 'line in the sand'...

  They can't backtrack now. It would be a huge credibility hit, even from true believers within.

  Sacrifices have been made...the psychology of previous investment.

  It doesn't matter if it makes one lick of sense or not...

  This is exactly why the Org has these arbitrary impositions. Because the leader at that time, decided so.

  Ain't NEW LIGHT grand! If you were one of the Anointed Remnant and celebrated birthdays pre-1926 and died before that time, you were resurrected to immortal heavenly life to reign with Jesus Christ. Nowadays if you claim to be of the Anointed Remnant and celebrate someone's birthday you open yourself up to being disfellowshipped and losing out on immortality. Makes perfect sense to me.
