    in minimus fashion

one thing that really ticked me off was the "phone number list" that was circulated mungst the elders and serial servents.

my phone number was unlisted, yet these blokes went and put MY unlisted phone numer on a phone list without asking for permission.

same went for the microphone handlers list, you were just put on the list and suddenly you were a mike handler.

same went for the attendents too, poof, you were an attendent.

how did you fare out there with the practice of being listed when your private information was supposed to be "UNLISTED"?

There's a list of PO's, too, that's created by the CO and distributed to all PO's in the Circuit.

yeah zev been there done that back when............... lol. poof all of a sudden..................... im on lists that i never knew existed. it ususally ticked me off at first then typical brainwashing set in.................... untill they put me on the chairman list for the public talk............... so i just conveinently was absent lol. you ever notice when they put you to work watching the hallways during asssemblys and conventions.............. that you always got the suckiest times? lol like during lunch every freaking day or after the session closed so you had to wait for like two hours after the thing was over this was especially bad on the last day lol grrrrrrrrrrrrr. what really pissed me off worst of all.............. was when my CELL NUMBER got given out to damn local elders........... AFTER I MOVED AND QUIT GOING. i can blame my dad for that bullshit but im gonna be moving again and im sure the number will change lol and ill not be giving it out to my folks even if they cant keep it to themselves this time.

On two different occasions in two different congregations, I was appointed a ministerial servant without any notice whatsoever prior to the reading of the appointment letter to the congregation.

When my husband was an elder, he always pointed out that they should talk to people first before putting them on the list for mike handlers and attendants so the brothers would know at least to check the list.

Neon, the elders should have at least pulled you into a private room just before the meeting and asked you if you wanted the appointment. Just a formality, but I have seen brothers turn down elder/MS appointments. Maybe they were afraid you would turn it down.

Besides making bad situations worse, elders also excel at list making.

Yes, I loved how your name, address and phone number were available to all the elder's wives who wanted to invite you to their stupid jewelry/cookware/tupperware/perfume, etc parties. You get invitations in the mail to these sales parties and wonder how the heck did they get your address to do that?? Then, when you ask for the list, oh no, only elders have a list of congregation publishers.

If persecution came, the brothers would NEED to get in touch with you so that you would know where the next underground meeting would be held. All of the sheep need to be taken care of. The shepherds need everyone's number or else they might not be able to save your life.

I've never had an unlisted phone number. Could never understand what the reason for it was. I wanted people to be able to find me.

Now we have a business and when you are in business, it is VITAL to have your number listed.

There are valid, personal reasons that you would have an unlisted number. Listing your personal number is like an invitation for anyone to interrupt you via telephone at their convenience. Unlisting your number is like inviting only those whom you wish to interrupt you at those times.

As far as needing to be listed if you run a home business -- it's easy, you could have a separate business phone line. That way you'd know WHICH calls are for business, and WHICH ones are personal.
